Knee high boots for the wider calf

AvonCallingBarksdale · 06/01/2026 15:56

Just bought some beautiful allegedly wider calf knee high boots from Jones via John Lewis. Sadly not wide enough so they’ll be going back. Any recommendations for wider calf boots that actually are?? Thanks

Hotter - ignore the "old lady" reputation, they do some lovely and really comfortable boots!

Duoboots

Duo of Bath

I haven't bought any for a few years but I've had a few pairs from Simply Be in the past that were pretty good. They had multiple different calf measurements.

samlovesdilys · 06/01/2026 16:19

New look on line, and all the ones recommended above - Duo are amazing but 💰

Great thank you! Back on the search 😁

Would not recommend Duo - very poor customer service. I had a pair from a Duo shop where the moulded sole failed after a few months and their response was pretty much tough shit. No offer to replace them.

I recently got some from Carvela

Depending on your budget, Fairfax & Favor do the Regina (& possibly other styles) in the Sporting fit (wider) calf.

ZiggyZowie · 06/01/2026 22:13

J D Williams, mine were under £40

Following as struggling too. I have narrow feet and slim ankles but huge calves. I find most wide calf boots also have a wide foot and they tend to be very baggy at my ankle if they fit my calf. I’m happy to pay good money for good quality (real leather etc)! Please do feed back Avon!!

Crispynoodle · 06/01/2026 22:26

I’ve just bought some on a whim in the schuh sale then told myself off because I have thick calves and thought what a waste of money. To my delight they fit! Can’t believe it!

Countryfiler · 06/01/2026 22:28

Duo as above. But look out on eBay as oxfam have an outlet with duo boots (new) half price or less. Just need to work out your size.

Yes I’ve noticed that wide calf seems to come with a wider foot size in the boots I’ve looked at 🤨. Like you, @TealReader I have standard width feet but a larger calf. Tbf I didn’t think they were THAT large, but there was no way the boots I’d bought were getting zipped up 😬

What is your calf measurement at the widest point? You don’t have to post it here but it does help to know when shopping online.

I find Next boots have always been pretty generous.

MrsLizzieDarcy · 06/01/2026 22:43

I've got several pairs from Sargasso and Grey. They fit my very chunky 44cm calves. Also Bareback boots have a good range. Wide fit from Fairfax & Favor are still teeny, same with DuBarry. Always check the size guide for calf measurements.

Please don't touch Duo Boots - I had 2 pairs from them when they went into liquidation in 2021, that were nearly £400 and I couldn't send back as they weren't accepting returns. The quality was laughable, they were scratched and had dreadful soles. Mere weeks later, they were up and trading again but wouldn't accept returns from the "old" company. Check out their Trustpilot reviews. Awful awful company and it enrages me to see them recommended so often.

TealReader · 07/01/2026 07:05

Avon I don’t think my calves look disproportionate either! They measure 39cm around but my feet are size 4 and I think smaller feet means narrower calf generally. I run and play tennis and do regular strength work so they are muscular calves! Either way though I’ve never been able to wear knee high boots.

Ooh I didn't know that, thank you @Countryfiler

“Old” Duo Boots (before liquidation in 2012 and then much restarting and stopping again) were excellent if you can find any preloved.

I hade hefty 44cm calves and wear Fly London Mes || boots, as the lower back sits below the bulge of my calf.

DM knee boots used to be very wide of the calf, but it’s a long time since I’ve had any, so I don’t know if this is still true]].

I feel less alone now in my wide calfed set-up! Thanks everyone.

I have the opposite problem and so I can definitely help you here!

I’d look at:
new look
primark
h&m
dune

All of the above were too wide of a circumference for me.

blobby10 · 07/01/2026 09:36

@AvonCallingBarksdale are you tall? I'm 5ft 9 but with long legs and big calves and most standard wide fit calf boots stop at the widest point of my calf. My kids bought me some from Long Tall Sally for Christmas and they are amazing - plenty big enough, extra wide fittings if you need plus long enough that they come to the top of my calf not half way up!

AvonCallingBarksdale · 07/01/2026 19:35

@blobby10 sadly not - I’m a short arse at 5’3” 😁
