Hello, having a v small wedding (just me and my husband running away together) and I'm searching for a dress. I don't have much of a budget - £500 max. I like the blush pinky dresses and I'm about 5'8 90kg ISH size 16 in most clothing.

Sparkly is good. Full big train is good. Strapless is a no, but any sort of strap is fine. Please help ladies! Thank you.

Should add - spring wedding but in Shetland, so won't be a sunny one!

You could try Still White, people sell their wedding dresses for a fraction of the price. Many will have had them professionally dry cleaned. Just be careful with sizing as wedding dress sizing is different o jronal sizing. You could try some brands you like in bridal boutiques and use that as a guide. Congratulations! www.stillwhite.com

So I had the same requirements as you- sparkly, pink and big train and the one and only dress I could find to meet my ask was “Allen Lynette” by Sottero and Midgely. It was the dress of my dreams. Someone is selling one for £1k on Still White but wonder if it’s worth you looking for one of those within your budget!

Why don't you rent something? Lots of very professional sites now will have lots of choice for you

Throwitaway12345 · 06/01/2026 21:11

Some of these are gorgeous thank you!

I have considered renting but as it's an elopement in a place known for such incremental weather im a bit afraid about the state it might be in when I return it?

Jjs house seems good, can I trust them?!

Depends which TrustPilot page you believe. One has them rated 2.5; the other is 4 but who knows if they’re genuine?

They’re based in Singapore and many reviews say they don’t honour their returns policy. I wouldn’t risk it personally.

Yes ( or at least you could when I got married). The sizing can be problematic so double check everything.

I wouldn’t worry about finding a dress though. There are literally thousands and thousands looking to be bought and prices decrease rapidly once they are a few seasons old.

CharlieUniformNovemberTango2023 · 06/01/2026 21:29

I bought mine on vinted and then had it altered. Cost 400 in total

Shoemadlady · 06/01/2026 21:33

Try monsoon, Debenhams, reiss, needle and thread. If you see a style you love try and find it on Vinted or there is a pre-loved bridal dress site too x

NarwhalBuddy · 06/01/2026 21:33

I bought myself a rose gold sparkly wedding dress and have zero regrets.
I got mine from ever-pretty, so would also suggest looking there, if you hadn’t considered it

PennyPugwash · 06/01/2026 23:10

I didn’t want to read and run. I had the worst experience with JJs house. Nothing like the picture, cheap material and about 5 sizes too big. They made it so difficult to return, it ended up in the charity bag. Just wanted to give you a heads up x

I’m so envious of you getting married in Shetland. What venue have you chosen?

We were going to get married and move there but sadly my partner had developed early onset dementia.

EleanorMc67 · 07/01/2026 02:22

Shimmery rather than sparkly, but a pretty shape ...? Or is this too low-key?!!

I got my wedding dress and bridesmaids dress from ever pretty. Even returned a few bridesmaids dresses I didn’t like, didn’t have a problem and got so many compliments about my dress

PinkOrchard · 07/01/2026 08:52

I don't know if you've got one of these near you, but I'd recommend looking at Wed2B. Beautiful dresses at a really reasonable price. If you can get to a store to try them on and you've found one out of your budget, then there are usually lots online (Vinted, other wedding dress sites) for great prices too!

Congratulations!
