Advice please. I’ve never done much in the way of make up - fortunate enough to have decent skin, but now feel a little extra help is needed. However, I don’t want to buy loads of stuff as I know I won’t stick to anything that takes more than a couple of minutes. I know zero about creams & skincare products - wouldn’t know a BB cream from a BB gun etc…

Current ‘routine’ is wash with nice soap, moisturise face/ neck/ hands/ legs with Nivea soft, apply eyeliner to make my eyes actually show up, bit of eyeshadow (the stick type), and maybe a bit of lipstick. No brushes or gadgets & don’t really want them if possible.

I’ve not done well with mascara in the past - it’s the only thing I appear to be sensitive to (possibly the contact lenses don’t help?) but things have maybe moved on since my last attempt in the 90s!

Feel I should be doing a bit more to the rest of my face now that things are starting to sag a bit. Again, I’ve struggled with picking a foundation in the past as my slightly olive skin tans really quickly at the first sign of sun, then goes deathly pale/ sallow in winter.

Where do I start?

I don’t mind spending for good quality stuff that I’ll actually use, and ideally would like the ‘natural but better’ look for every day & a tiny bit more for the odd posh occasion.

I live in a town with a John Lewis & SpaceNK as well as Boots etc.

Thanks - and Happy New Year!

As someone whose routine for many years involved an exfoliating wash cloth and a shower gel I completely get not wanting to fluff around with it.
I’ve been known to have products gather dust till way past due date left basically unused.
I do regularly for few years now use zejaskincare intense face plant, and must admit it has done wonders , I use it for anything dry, hands, lips, face, takes me no more than a minute. It’s Manuka honey and rosehip, fully organic and waterless.

A tinted moisturiser or BB cream makes a big difference and won’t feel too makeup-y. Erborian or NARS would be good places to start. You can try both in space NK - they will give you a little pot to test possible colours at home if you ask, which I highly recommend doing. NARS has a bit more coverage. You might need two colours, one winter one summer.

Mascara - no need to spend a lot. Elf Lash & Roll is a good non clumpy natural looking mascara, available at boots or superdrug. They are a lot better than the 90s (I also had the contact lens issue, I think “lengthening fibres” were popular in those days but played havoc with lenses). I would just do top lashes if you’re not used to it, less chance of smudging or looking overdone.

I’d consider swapping the soap for Cerave or Cetaphil wash which is less drying.

Lips I’d probably swap from lipstick to a tinted balm or lip oil. But depends if you find lipstick drying or not.

Do you have any other skin issues? Congestion, dryness, pigmentation? If your skin is good then no need to add anything else in really. Nothing will help with sagginess.
