Best cheaper perfumes?

I used to love an M&S perfume loads, then it was discontinued. I've have heard Zara do good ones. I can't afford high end perfumes but really want something nice that lasts, for myself and also as gifts for friends. What are the best high st perfumes in your opinion?

Next do some good dupes and because you can buy a small bottle for about £5 you can try them over a while. I liked Only You this summer and at the moment love Eau Nude which is a dupe for a Channel perfume.

Depending on your taste OP.

You don’t mention if you are into florals, fruity, sweet, woody, citrusy….

What was the name of the perfume you liked and would you be looking for something similar?

I find the hair mist versions of some perfumes to be very good value for the (lower) price. I’m really enjoying the Peonia Nobile hair mist which is £30 compared to £180 for the perfume version.

Forgot to add, my sister really loves Lovely by Sarah Jessica Parker

It is not to everyone's taste but if you like Jo Malone, the B&M Elegant Pomegranate is great and very similar for less than a fiver. Other than that, I would agree some of the more established scents are great, like Anais Anais and l'Air du Temps (very floral) or some of the EA ones (like red door). I also like Britney Spears (several) and are reasonable (but not trendy). x

Have you looked at Fragonard stocked at M&S?

DeborahVance · 29/12/2025 12:14

Another recommendation for Lovely by SJP, it is really nice.

M&S scents in the brown bottles are good too . I'm not sure what they are dupes for but they smell lovely

Valley of Roses do lovely dupes.
check out their website.
The Essence Vault also does lovely dupes.

Good question! I think I'm more woody and citrusy but do like floral if not too heady. The M&S one was called Island Escape. I also got a Jo Malone sample set once and loved Pomelo. And used to pop into Boots on way to work to regularly "try" Coco Mademoiselle when I could. I wonder if I still like Eternity. I'm not actually sure if these suggest a pattern. I dont really understand fragrance descriptions tbh

Zara Golden Decade is a dupe for Ysl Libre. It lasts and projects well I get complimented on it all the time! One lady even got me type it into Google for her on her phone so she could order it straightaway!

Eau Nude from Next is a dupe for Coco Mademoiselle. It's what I wear day to day 😀
