Foundation suitable for acne coverage but which isn't too heavy or cakey

Hello.

I feel like I might be after the impossible. I want to get a good foundation for teen DD, who has acne, which is not greasy (ideally oil free), will cover acne and scarring, but not make it too obvious that she's wearing make-up. If it's really really good, I don't mind spending a bit.

Any suggestions?

Thank you in advance.

The NARS pot concealers work amazingly on acne scars / spots I find, paired with the glossier skin tint (gives the rest of the skin the tiniest bit of coverage) - and a small dusting of powder (huda beauty is a winner) on top means it doesn’t budge.

I love the number 7 pro artist weightless silk foundation.

Clinique Anti-Blemish foundation is non comedogenic (doesn’t block pores), I started using it after a nasty adult acne flare up a few years ago.

I’m very happy with it, I think it’s got a nice balance between coverage and “naturalness” if that makes sense. I went to one of the counters in Boots to get someone to help me colour match, so that could be an option if your DD wants to test it out first?

Otherwise keep your eye out for foundation that says it is non-comedogenic when you are searching.

Thank you all. I'm checking all of these out.

I hadn't realised there was so much nuance in choosing the skin tone/colour. I am so confused by this world. With NARS, this is the closest I can find to her skin colour/tone in the pictures, but how is this not classified as "light"? And I'm assuming that if it's not light enough it will be more obvious she's wearing it. Argh

Thanks again

@InternetPortal most people need more than one to blend to a perfect match I think, I have two (on advice from the beauty artist!) and it does make shade matching so much easier.

Do you know what shade she wears in other brands? They have a shade matcher I think were you can specify another brands shade and they’ll tell you their equivalent 😃

Thank you! That's very helpful to know

For spots: Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer is fab - its worth her checking out Lisa Eldridge's video on spot concealing too, she favours a 'less is more' approach which might help! You could also get a cheap green concealer to help her counteract the redness, you layer a tiny bit under your regular concealer.
If you google 'how to figure out what skin tone and undertone i am' you can find some helpful tips, but yes look at one that matches her well already. Nars concealers come in mini versions, so if you are worried about getting it wrong it will be less of a ££ hit.

For spots AND acne scarring, I really rate the NYX Bare With Me Concealer Serum, its technically concealer but you only need a tiny bit and its very light, use that with a beauty sponge and it just evens everything out. And its cheap, so if you get the shade wrong its not too much of a hit.

If she struggles with oiliness, does she use any powder? What about primer and setting spray? Can suggest a few things depending on what she uses already or might fancy trying.

As pp have said Nars pot concealer is very good.
Has she tried Estée Lauder double wear? Buildable and good coverage.

If she uses concealer she won't need such a heavy based foundation.

Erborian Super BB is fantastic for acne/ blemishes.
Great non cakey coverage and it prevents breakouts, also.
My DD uses it and it looks amazing
