Can any of you style gurus please help me.

I have Christmas drinks at a friends house at the weekend. It will be a large gathering and I don’t know how formal, so I want to go smart casual, but I’m having a real issue figuring out shoes.

Im wearing this dress and this cardigan, with quite sheer black tights. I wondered if a patent, chunky loafer would work, or if they are more work wear.

Not sure I would want very high heels, as unsure what others will wear and I’m very new to this social group.

I’d thought silver before I saw your update. Don’t go thick tights but a fine pattern fishnet and ballet flats. As slipper like as possible in case it’s a shoe off house and for comfort.

I am fan of a fairly robust ballet pump , but what I know about what is a la mode could be written on the head of a pin so probably fairly useless 😂

if it's just at a friend's house I'd ask them what they are wearing to get an idea of how dressed up/down to go, and whether they let you keep your shoes on indoors!

Black ankle or knee high boots would work, if you have any? A loafer could look cool too, but I wouldn't worry too much about footwear for a house party, personally.
Younger me would have gone for heels but I'm all for comfort now. I felt reassured recently when my 22 year old niece told me she and her friends usually go for boots or flats when going out now.
