Has anyone else had problems with dull, dry, flat hair since hitting 40? Not sure whether it's two kids' worth of abuse on my body or hormones starting to go ballistic, but if anyone has found a shampoo/conditioner that brings back shine and bounce please share! I'm also going grey so starting to resemble a mangy badger.

Stop putting yourself down. Do the grey grow out. Fuck da patriarchy.

My hair is more dry and thinning and has always been flat. I use the Bed Head shampoos and conditioners, those gave the shine back. I’m 48 and no way I’d let myself go grey this young. Or ever for that matter. My grandma dyed her her all her life and when she stopped at 75-ish she started to look much older.

Stop highlighting or colouring if you do. My hair is in amazing condition and I am 54. The grey grow out has been liberating.

There are umpteen threads about this on MN so do a few searches to reap the collective wisdom.

Many dark haired MNs like a caffeine shampoo. I've had good results with John Frieda Go Blonder.

In general, you hair will be changing and you may need a total rethink - different products, different tools, different style.
