Satin slip dress and trainers...

I have a jewellery colour satin slip dress, that fits well, but I usually only wear in summer, and some sparkly trainers.

I know it's not the edgy look it once might have been....way way back, but it's comfy for a birthday party I have a week before Christmas.

I have parties three weekends in a row. The best dresses have already been "used". I'm unsure how fancy this one will be, so the outfit seems somewhere in between glitz and casual, and for various reasons I won't be wearing heels.

A good solution or riduculous?

Surely there’s a middle ground between heels and trainers?

I think that sounds like a good outfit, but chilly at this time of year. Maybe an oversize blazer over the slip dress?

Mmmkaay · 12/12/2025 08:39

I was going to suggest velvet blazer over the top. What sort of trainers?

What colour ? I wouldn’t wear a dressy dress with trainers. I see people with leggings and fur coats and trainers and it looks really mish match. Can you not wear DM boots instead of trainers?

Slip dresses and trainers are very much acceptable in my dd’s friend group. As long as they are nice trainers obviously. It’s as acceptable a fashion choice to them as summer dresses and trainers which everyone does

They're silver slip on Mint Velvet trainers. I'm not aiming for high fashion 🤣 I do also have light grey New Balance.

Re PP who suggested a middle ground between heels and trainers, I find it better to go all in than halfway. Sensible shoes will look more frumpy than trainers?

I have a very old wool biker jacket I was planning to use. I think that's probably dated too, but DP loves it.

I don't have DMs. I do have some chunky navy nubuck ankle boots.

The dress is somewhere between Barbie pink and deep purple.

Can you share a pic of the outfit?

There is. But a slip dress and trainers is a particular look, which presumably is what the OP is going for. It’s all part of the 90s fashion revival, I imagine. I recall wearing this outfit as a teenager!
