How to style this ruffle skirt?!

Looking for advice on how to style this skirt - I bought it two years ago but it just hangs in my wardrobe as I don't know what to wear with it! I'd like to wear it over the winter, both smart and casually - maybe even on Christmas day. I love the skirt but have lost my sense of style in recent years. Help, oh stylish ones!

@Lookslikesputnik I've a similar skirt and wear it with chunky ankle boots and a sloppy jumper for casual wear.
For smarter occasions, I wear a boxy cashmere, short sleeved jumper and Mary Jane shoes.

If I was to wear this in winter i’d go with a cropped jacket or coat or a waist length jumper/cardigan and long boots.
in warmer weather you can wear it with trainers or shoes and a smaller top as the skirt is quite full and big so something shorter will balance it more.
wear with a smaller shoe with a small heel to go out and a nice top, same principle of not baggy or long
But I’m no fashionista so someone else may come on and say something different !

Have you tried it on with everything you own? You need to experiment and play around with colours and proportions and weight of fabrics.

The thing is, there isn’t really a ‘correct’ answer. It’s a contemporary skirt, if you put something with it and like what you see in the mirror - that’s a style.

What would you wear with it if it were a pair of jeans? Try that.

This was excellent advice - I've just tried it on with lots of woolen jumpers and have found four new outfit options! I think I had it in my head I'd need to avoid a chunky knit due to the volume, but it actually works perfectly - I feel like Claudia Winkleman!
