Office Christmas party - dress code smart casual?!

I’ve got my work Christmas party next week and just been told the dress code is “smart casual” - it’s thrown me as I was planning to wear outfit in the photo with a pair of loafers; but is that too much?! (Sorry for weird looking flat lay 🙃)

Our office culture is very casual as we’re in a creative industry, ie jeans and trainers.

The evening is dinner in a nice restaurant then bowling or karaoke.

I think Christmas parties should be sparkly… And I love seeing others’ party-ish outfits rather than more jeans and sweat shirts after the working week.

Thoughts please?!

Office Christmas party - dress code smart casual?!

It’s fine
enjoy

GameOfJones · 05/12/2025 08:19

Totally fine.

LavenderBlue19 · 05/12/2025 08:19

It's fine. I'd just take that to mean not jeans.

QueenMummyTheFirst · 05/12/2025 08:25

I'd say that was perfect. I think "smart casual" is a huge range, but also I would say that smart casual at christmas would edge more towards dressy than at other times of year.

Have a great time!

TheChosenTwo · 05/12/2025 08:27

Wow, top to bottom sparkle, very festive op!!
I think smart casual just means no suits required but please don’t come in your jogging bottoms.
i think jeans would be fine as long as they’re not ripped, they’re casual wear.

ConnieHeart · 05/12/2025 08:32

It's fine. But you can bet your bottom dollar there will be plenty of men dressed in jeans

SpoodenWoon · 05/12/2025 08:40

Oh I think 100% of the men will be dressed in jeans, if not more… 😆

Good old Smasual dress code. I think it just means wear what you want!

MsAlignment · 05/12/2025 09:12

Looks great - and perfectly suitable!

I’d assume it meant jeans… Our office is smart/casual and 100% of the men and 90% of the women wear jeans!

Really?! I'd say that was shorthand for 'jeans are fine'!

Mumofoneandone · 05/12/2025 10:37

Love the outfit!! Go for it x

But for a Christmas party?

I don't know, I just figured as they're usually very casual and they've made the distinction of 'smart casual' they're asking them to dress up a bit?

TheThingsYouDoForLurve · 05/12/2025 11:57

It’s a good outfit but I wouldn’t go too to toe sparkle for a ‘smart / casual’ work do. One or the other for me.

I’d probably go with the top and non sparkly trousers or skirt (leather mono would look good).

SpoodenWoon · 05/12/2025 13:46

Thanks everyone! I think I’m going to stick to my festive guns

I think it's a great outfit that nails the brief perfectly.
