Help me choose a navy tote bag for Christmas. Budget around £600

My DH has kindly offered to buy me a new bag for Christmas and I think I would get most use from a tote bag. I wear a lot of navy so I don’t think a black or tan bag would work and I’m struggling to find a nice navy one. Any ideas? Budget around £500-£600. It doesn’t really need to be a certain size or particularly sturdy as I’m not planning on using it for work, really just for using weekends shopping etc. Thanks.

Sorry I don’t know how to do links on the app but Aspinal of London have some nice leather navy tote bags and they are currently on sale.

KimTheresPeopleThatAreDying · 29/11/2025 14:26

Aspinal is lovely quality too.

NorthFaceofthelaundrypile · 29/11/2025 14:30

Not Navy, but I’d go for the Demellier New York in Burgandy which would go beautifully with navy outfits

Defiantly41 · 29/11/2025 14:32

Selection from John Lewis

Was going to suggest burgundy too, goes so nicely with navy. And agree there's some nice ones in the Aspinal sale.

Blue or a lovely wine/burgundy one?

DeedlessIndeed · 29/11/2025 14:34

What colour shoes or belt do you wear with Navy OP?

Navy looks amazing with chocolate IMO, or Tan. Just in case you are struggling with navy options.

Arregaithel · 29/11/2025 14:48

These are all beautiful bags, imo @thedogdaysareover51

Strathberry

Stow

Songmont

thedogdaysareover51 · 29/11/2025 14:49

Thanks all. I wear trainers all the time @JudgeBreadso it’s difficult to match a bag colour. I think the options linked are quite workwear and structured looking which I’m not sure I love but I think that’s the problem with navy!

@Arregaithelthe Stow ones are lovely! I’ve never heard of that brand. I think I prefer the slouchy look and that’s why the Aspinal ones on this thread are not appealing to me.

@Defiantly41thanks for linking. I unfortunately like the Mulberry tote best which is out of my budget.

Ah, like you, I struggle to reconcile my taste and my budget! If you decided that burgundy would be ok, this Oxblood colour one is cheaper.

or if you are near one of the Mulberry outlets (Somerset, Bicester or Cheshire Oaks), they have some very good deals but no online shopping

otherwise, ask for JL vouchers from everyone for Christmas and hope for a a January sale bargain!

Maybe look at a hobo style bag instead

thedogdaysareover51 · 29/11/2025 20:12

Thanks everyone. I really like the Mulberry totes. I love the pale blue one but I’m wondering if I’ll get enough use out of it being pale blue (it feels like a summer colour). I wear pale blue a lot but it still feels a strange colour for a bag.
I’ll check out hobo bags too.

It’s a light denim blue

it’s practically a neutral :)

Deffo mulberry!

thedogdaysareover51 · 30/11/2025 08:23

I think I agree @notnormanI really like the DeMellier New York totes on other people but don’t think I’d easily get them under my arm and would find it annoying carrying it with one hand.
Also love burgundy on other people and agree would look nice with navy but I’m a pale blonde and really don’t suit burgundy. It makes me so washed out looking and I don’t own one burgundy item. I’m hoping the burgundy (and brown) trend dies soon!

We have the same colouring- I like the burgundy on other people but it really isn’t for me! I’m charcoal grey, navy and chestnut (away from my face!)

MrsWhites · 30/11/2025 08:28

Another vote for mulberry - definitely try the outlets. You don’t get a lot of black or tan but I find navy, lighter colours and sometimes the oxblood burgundy colours are more regularly available.

I’ve got a beautiful oxblood cross body bag coming my way this Christmas!

thedogdaysareover51 · 30/11/2025 09:00

@MrsWhites I’m in Scotland so unfortunately nowhere near a Mulberry outlet.

If you really love the Mulberry tote bags, have you thought about second-hand? Sorry - pre-loved/vintage!!!

Sale bargain at Liberty - down from £575 to £375. If it's to be an everyday shopping kind of bag, the option of a shoulder/crossbody strap as well as handles might be quite good? I find that more secure when I'm out & about - plus it frees both hands (for shopping bags!!).

I like this Tory Burch one as it's got long-enough straps to be worn over the shoulder when necessary.
