How to style brown brogues with skirts (mainly sock related)

I’m buying some flat tan coloured leather brogues to wear (primarily) to work, on the basis that they’re smarter than trainers but still should be comfortable to wear.
i mainly wear skirts to work, but am considering what…sockwear?.. to wear with them/how to style them. All the pictures seem to be sockless/hidden socks which I don’t want to do. I also don’t think they’d look right with black tights, or am I wrong on this.

What socks would you wear with these with light/camel/cream coloured skirts?

if it’s relevant the internet suggests my style is ‘light academia’. I wear for work fine knit jumpers, textured skirts, midi or knee length, tweedy jacket.
Also do wear trousers but socks not so much of a question here.

I honestly hate brogues with a low profile.

Slouch socks .Knee length but kinda baggy .

Flat brogues with a skirt will make your legs and ankles look fatter than they are. Not flattering at all. Opaque brown tights would be the best pairing I think.

Oh no imagine that I nearly bought something that is smart and comfortable without considering that my ankles might not be flattered.

I don't think there is a way to make skirts, brogues and socks look anything other than frumpy I'm sorry to say.

I know this from bitter experience. That said, I also have very short hair, which didn’t help.

I can’t see any way to make them work together but I think I’d say definitely thick woollen tights not sheer tights. Can you find dome images on the internet?

Im thinking patterened tights or dark red wooly tights/long socks

I like your style because I wear similar, the country look. I wear tights with colour mulberry goes with some of my skirts. Have you considered knee socks in a contrast colour? I saw a magazine pic of mustard socks with brown skirt.

Agree this would look good. Not keen on any of the sock ideas. Something like cable knit tights. Failing that, opaque tights.

I think loafers would have been easier to style with skirts than brogues though.

I think thick tights, patterned or textured would look fab. I love Snag tights. Ignore the previous posters. I thought we were past the stage of criticising what other women chose to wear, but I forgot this was Mumsnet.

I wear mine like this. Sheer brown tights and little ankle socks

I love that look, I’d wear coloured tights in a complimentary tone, ideally wool but would happily wear opaques.

I'd go with opaque tights - either black or a colour that contrasts well with your skirt.

I don't wear trousers very often so in winter I usually wear heavy shoes with a skirt and tights to work. As pp said, it is not especially flattering to my ankles as I have short legs, but I don't really care - I'm not going to teeter along frosty pavements while my feet get wet in low-fronted shoes!

I wear loafers and midi skirts and I often wear knee socks. I’ll wear black, tan, Fair Isle, argyle (I save those for when everything else in in a plain colour). It’s about time socks had pride of place again and I love them - great with culottes too. You can also get away with white ankle socks as well as opaque tights. It wouldn’t work if you were a barrister or estate agent, but if you are a creative/academic it can work really well.

I would go full on 1940s and wear with ankle socks or woolly tights.

I'd say ankle socks, too, or crew socks folded/ruckled down, with or without tights of any suitable colour. This winter, there are lots of 'feature' socks with coloured patterns, glitter or applique. These socks are definitely meant to be shown!

Thin wool socks will be perfect. The look is fine, ignore the haters.

I dress like this and always have visible ankle socks (crew socks?). Have a range of colours such as red, green, mustard, cream, bright blue.

just got some nice cream ones with a leopard print stripe from oliver bonas. Also some burgundy ones with a tiny embroidered snoopy from Uniqlo.
