He has a school play a week on Saturday, he has to wear 70's gear.

What did the kids wear in the 70's?

Needs if posible to be simple, we live in rural France so not many decent shops here.

I'd quite like him to look fab & funky, he loves dressing up silly so he'll enjoy it.

The simplest solution: tank-top in totally vile colour + flared trousers + chopper bike (optional) - I was that child .

mamamamama · 08/06/2008 19:51

Sounds like the picture of me on my profile!

Heated · 08/06/2008 19:52

I can echo that!

If he doesn't have flared trousers you can make some fabric covered card ones that fit round his ankles that look a bit like lampshades!

Or go punk!!

Madamejaffa · 08/06/2008 20:09

mamamamama lovely pic's.

2loudboys, he actually has a chopper bike, lol not sure the school would appreciate it on stage though.

So Flares, Jeans OK?
Good tip for the flares. Tank top...hmmmmmm, I'll have to work on that one.

I'm really crap at this, glad he doesn't get many fancy dress party invites.

Brown and orange - very fashionable as a child of the 70's

KatyMac · 08/06/2008 20:10

Cheap charity shop jumper with the sleeves cut off = tanktop

FrannyandZooey · 08/06/2008 20:12

he needs a shirt with a long collar
and bad glasses

Madamejaffa · 08/06/2008 21:36

Oh yes glasses.. Can do cool sun glasses.

No charity shops here unfortunately but I may ventre into the loft to find something to butcher design.

What about shoes? don't think he'd be impressed with wedges. lol

Shorts (longish baggy ones) & knee socks or is that a bit 50's?

FrannyandZooey · 09/06/2008 08:52

I've got size 9 black plimsolls you can have if you want?

FrannyandZooey · 09/06/2008 08:53

oh, just seen you;re in France
buy the cheap ones!

MrsBadger · 09/06/2008 09:23

flares are easy to make from outgrown/cheap/charity shop trous by unpicking the outside leg seam and putting in a triangle of vile flowery contrasting material thus...

minko · 09/06/2008 09:24

Afro wig?

Madamejaffa · 09/06/2008 19:03

MrsB, you are a star! I was talking to mother today who I have told asked to make some flares for him. We have found some vile orange material to use & Mum was going to hunt for a pattern. Saved her the job, thanks.

I think I have a slightly too small brown jumper that we will turn tanktop after hacking.

Oh how I'd love him to wear an afro wig, not sure I'll find one round here though. Lots of cheese and cognac but not much for dressing up.

Supermarket didn't have the plimsoles today, but will keep looking, thanks for the offer Zooey, but I will find some here, he is a 13 anyway.

I will load pictures when your styling is complete.
