Is there a way to make your clothes sparkle temporarily ?

I’m going to a party where the dress code is sparkle. People really do go all out on the sparkle theme, wearing sequin dresses etc. I don’t have sequins, and don’t really want to buy anything sequin. Is there any way to add sparkle to an existing party outfit without ruining it? I still want to look fairly elegant, so not tack tinsel to my outfit. I’ll probably wear velvet trousers and a flimsy top.

What about that body and hair glitter spray. I used to use it to go clubbing in the 90s. Surely you can still get it

it certainly made me sparkle :)

I’ve never tried it, but you used to be able to buy wash-out glitter spray for hair. Might that be worth a go on clothes? Maybe try on something you don’t mind having wrecking first.

Could you get hold of a sparkly belt?

I’ve seen some nice sparkly brooches at Next and M&S.

But what about a super sparkly necklace or hair accessory

Sparkly body powder/dust? I have some Benefit Kitten sparkling body powder from the 2000s somewhere in my wardrobe. I reckon something like that would work.

In boots you can get glitter spray that you can spray on your body. I think it is called playboy. Anyway I get it all over my clothes when I spray it on my arms and everything sparkles until I wash it out. It also has a nice perfume.

Lush has a couple different body sprays with glitter. They work really well and are fine for hair and body, and don't stain your clothes.

Body glitter never occurred to me! I’m allergic to most perfumed products. I wonder whether I can find an unfragranced one. Powder make up is often unfragranced.

My trousers are bog-standard, machine-washable M&S, so no issues there. Top likely to be silk, so I’ll be more cautious with it.

There’s an instagrammer who recommends these? https://www.instagram.com/reel/DRC5TFRjGLR/?igsh=MTBmNGVkcTBnZW0wMA==

Love these! But I’m not likely to wear long sleeves to this party. I just get too hot, especially when dancing. Might get some anyway, for a different outfit.

Go To your local charity shop and try and find something with sequins at a reasonable price then donate back when you are done.

redtieorno · 21/11/2025 13:26

Yes! Amazon do a spray which sticks to clothes but comes out in the wash! X
