Satin skirt... how to make it more forgiving

I'm fairly slim but ouch the new satin skirt I've bought is very unforgiving.
No lining and it clings and shows VPL. I guess with tights it might look better?
Any other tips? Not keen on Spanx type things.

I am not especially slim, but wear satin skirts a lot, always with a slip - makes a huge difference!

mambojambodothetango · 17/11/2025 21:55

My wedding dress was satin and I bought an anti static spray to stop it clinging. I use it now for anything when i need a slip or a synthetic skirt. Really works.

AnSolas · 17/11/2025 21:59

Yep agree with mimiasovitch a slip can make it hang better.

And I find tights with a high waist help

And long short style or french knicker style work to remove the VPL

I wear the M & S anti chaffe shorts under mine, not very attractive but they do the job!

Definitely a slip. The Uniqlo ones come with a matching slip.

A slip!

Do the slips get static and cling? Where from / what type of fabric?

No they don't. M&S ones are good.

ThePoetsWife · 18/11/2025 07:54

I wear slips when wearing dresses and long skirts - these really do hang so much better as a result. I get mine from M&S and they have different lengths

Iloveeverycat · 18/11/2025 08:57

Wear a slip I always do with unlined skirts.

Was just about to post the same thing, I have two and was rather impressed to see they'd included a slip!

Or wear a big jumper over the top, rhat reaches your hips

Hephebe · 18/11/2025 09:30

Sorry to hijack but @WhereAreWeNow and @ruethewhirl, can I please ask for your experience of sizing for those Uniqlo skirts? I've been looking at them but find their sizing so hit and miss! I'm 12-14 dress size usually.

I'm a 10 and wear the small so I would guess the medium would work for you. Have you checked the sizing info on the website? It's quite detailed and useful.

Isabelle70 · 18/11/2025 19:17

@HephebeI am a M&S and Next size 14 and a New Look 16 and have an L in the Uniqlo satin skirts.

All great suggestions. Will look for a slip as it didn't come with one (Ghost not Uniqlo)

Apologies, only just seen this. I'm in an in-between phase size-wise as I'm dieting, so my answer's a bit complicated 😄 I was probably somewhere between a 16 and an 18 when I tried the medium and it was a bit tight so I went for the large. Not worn it recently but now I'm a definite 16 I suspect I might have been OK with the medium. Don't know if that's any help! 😄
