Would you help me find a skirt like this one?

This is the skirt that I wear when I go clothes shopping. The rule is that I can’t buy a different skirt or trousers unless they look just as good as this skirt on me as a consequence I’m very short of clothes! I haven’t seen any pencil skirts and they don’t currently have them in jigsaw. I’m happy to buy secondhand thank you!

Pencil skirts are very dated, that one more so than most. I understand you like it but do you think maybe it’s time to update your style to something a little more current and come out of your comfort zone?

TroubledBloodyMary · 15/11/2025 16:48

They’re so old fashioned they’re coming back in …

& Other Stories has this:

Grey lace

and this

Snakeskin also available in plain black leather.

But they haven’t reached peak acceptance yet (which is why Jigsaw don’t have any) so the cut of tops and coats in mainstream fashionable shops may not be ideal to go with them.

I would be miserable if I imposed arbitrary rules on myself that stopped me enjoying an evolving contemporary wardrobe …

I feel the same, I don’t follow fashion, but I want at least a nod to current and contemporary . One of the most ageing or frumpy things is keeping wearing the same dated stuff.

Being polite as possible I’m not sure that skirt would, look good on anyone now. I’m guessing the seller will be stunned so many looking at it on eBay, which is only because it’s on here.

op have a look at sites like me + em or Reiss. See what’s current now to get an idea. Pop into a department store and try some different styles on. Maybe try a personal shopper. And if money is tight, just come home and then look at vinted to see if you can find similar to what you liked.

updating your style will make you look much fresher and I’d consign that skirt to the recycle bin, it’s done it’s job and it’s well past retirement age x

Hobbs have lovely pemncil skirts. I also have some nice ones from reiss and jaegar.

YarraValley · 15/11/2025 20:19

Do you only want to buy pencil skirts?

ScratchedSkirtings · 15/11/2025 20:31

Well I think your rule is admirable. You are not saying “only pencil skirts”, just “only skirts I like more than this one”. Which seems entirely sensible!
I frequently get compliments on my clothes. This week I wore items ranging in age from 50+ years (a vintage 70s piece) to 5-ish years (some past-season Zara from the charity shop). Nothing newer bar undies. It’s ok to wear clothes for years and years.
(Can’t help with skirt recommendations though, other than suggesting Vinted. Once you’ve hearted a few good ones the algorithm will start offering you more…)

cuberoot · 15/11/2025 21:05

I agree with @ScratchedSkirtings . I don't suit pencil skirt and my job is very informal so I wouldn't have anywhere to wear them anyway (although I like them on other people), but at 43 I finally feel like I can wear what I like and what suits me regardless of whether it's in fashion or not, and this is sooo liberating!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 16/11/2025 08:48

I like pencil skirts and read that they’re back, but haven’t really seen any yet.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 16/11/2025 08:50

I like that grey lace MV one. I had something similar from Next about a hundred years ago.

Lionessadmirer · 16/11/2025 20:44

I like the grey lace one too. Thank you!

will look in Hobbs

Hi, I have this exact skirt in immaculate condition in a size 12. Not sure what size you are looking for?

Lionessadmirer · 22/11/2025 18:52

Thank you! Mine is still good. I’m after similar skirts :)

the shop manager sent a pic of me in my skirt and knee high flat boots to the Jigsaw designer :). A first for me!
