Guest of honour dress

I will try and keep this vague to avoid outing myself.
I will be guest of honour to a black tie event for about 800 people. Definitely ball gown territory.
I am 50, 5ft 9inch, bob brunette and size 14, good legs but sadly these will have to be covered I suspect.
Can anyone help me please?
I do have lots of dresses in the closet but of a type- all black, beaded, some sequins.
I think I need a statement.
the only think that is a MUST for me is I would prefer to cover my arms please.

I’d look at hiring a dress. You could get something that would otherwise be outside your budget and by the sounds of it, you have plenty of evening dresses so do you really want to own another one?

Obviously I don’t know the milieu but I’m inclined to agree that £500 would barely touch the sides for the sort of dress you need. Eg:
