Help! My lovely new skirt looks like school uniform 😭

I’ve bought a beautiful skirt from Cos (Navy skirt ) in my efforts to buy less but better. It fits beautifully, suits my size and shape - but everything I pair it with looks like school uniform 😩. How can I style it so I don’t look like I’m doing my GCSEs? All help and advice appreciated

Unless you’re actually a teenager, I don’t think anyone is going to think it’s school uniform! I wear lots of skirts like this. This week I wore one with an oversized mohair jumper, thick tights and chunky lace up boots. At work I wear with flat Mary Jane’s, opaque tights and either a thin wool jumper or silk top and short bright jacket.

Nobody has confused me for a school girl!

What have you tried it with so far?

I have this skirt, also love it, I wore it to a conference last week with the matching jacket a cream vest and knee high black suede boots. I didn’t feel at all school girlish (but I’m way past being mistaken for that age hah!) and got lots of compliments.

yes it does and there’s no way I’d pair it with tights and knee high boots or jacket or cream vest as above all that’s too close to school uniform or waitress wear can be any age there’s got to be less confusing items out there OP

I’ve got a very very similar skirt. I wear it with either a tight black polo neck or a sleeveless scoop neck silk top. Black tights and either black doc style boots or heels.

I think you need bright colours to stop the vibe, and definitely no shirts or cardigans.

I have a similar skirt. I style it like this. Chunky boots (with tights in this weather) with an oversized knit and boxy coat.

Thank you, some good ideas here. I’m quite short/petite so have to be careful not to go too oversized on the top as it can drown me a bit, but I like the idea of tights and chunky boots. Had tried loafers but they really didn’t work. Also tried a boxy cardi but it just sat oddly. Will have a go with a chunky jumper. What kind of colours? White/cream looks like a waitress, burgundy looks like uniform, anything too light doesn’t work with the deep navy…. Am worried this is going to be one of those mistakes that sits in my wardrobe because I just can’t work it out! You’d think it would be easy.
