Trainers for interview?

fivebyfivefaith · 10/11/2025 13:21

I have 3 interviews this week, none are customer facing but one is in an old bunker (don’t ask!) at a MOD site
struggling with what to wear
tops I have plenty, and a relaxed blazer from M&S in black
trouser options are grey wide leg, check wide leg, or ankle grazer black
shoes I have these trainers (new not scruffy) or these black flats)

You may be right but OP is not there is assess the interviewer, its the other way around

Well, I was actually talking about me in the interest reading that posts rather than an actual interview situation, but of course the candidate is assessing the interviewer. That’s would be the height of arrogance to assume the interviewer isn’t selling the organisation.

Passthecake30 · 10/11/2025 19:20

I think the 2nd pair of boots. I’d avoid the trainers with the white sole, as they would highlight the fact they are casual shoes.

beulaballbreaker · 10/11/2025 19:26

The trainers you have would be fine for an interview like that. They are smart, I think smarter than the slip-one. I think it’s highly unlikely that an interviewer would look at those and think you’re not up to the job!

Ok one has sent interview spec over with smart casual and need a high viz from reception - I’m wearing the trainers for that one
the others I think the shoes

@fivebyfivefaith sounds spot on. Main thing is you feel confident, wishing you the best of luck x

fivebyfivefaith · 12/11/2025 11:56

I wore a patterned top for the first interview with ankle grazer black trousers and the Skechers shoes with a coatigan over
went really well. Got an hours break now before my second interview elsewhere

Thank you

I should hear back from one tomorrow hopefully (that’s the one I want) and the other next week
another 2 interviews on Friday which I’ll wear the trainers for as more casual

Fabulous news - congratulations!

🎉

Helpmefindmysoul · 13/11/2025 14:35

Congrats! Hope you enjoy your new role..

If you’re still going to proceed with the other interviews then I would avoid the sketcher looking shoes you have. I’d go with the trainers. Appreciate you’re meant to dress up now but if we apply that notion women would still be attending interviews in heels and I don’t think anyone in their 20s now is interviewing in anything other than smart casual which can include trainers.

Ilovewillow · 13/11/2025 14:59

I own a company and I would go with the grey wide legged trousers which are probably longer in length so the shoes won't stand out anyway. I certainly wouldn't object to either pair. As long as you're clean and ironed then I think that is sufficient.

fivebyfivefaith · 13/11/2025 15:57

These were the ones I wore in the end, I think they look much better on then in the photos

(I have hoovered in my life, I just have a cat with cystitis and cat litter tracks everywhere!)
