I think it depends on depends on venue etc. Small registry office and pub afterwards then yes. Church followed by smart hotel reception then no. Sorry but I think it looks a bit like a dress for work (a bloody lovely dress though)

MiddleAgedDread · 10/11/2025 10:15

I wouldn't, nice dress but agree with @Augustone it's more something i'd wear to work or to go out for a casual dinner in.

vincettenoir · 10/11/2025 10:20

I don’t see why not.

Prelim · 10/11/2025 10:23

I think it’s perfect for a wedding and very similar to a lot of dresses I saw at weddings this year.

waitam · 10/11/2025 10:26

I can see that with a little black fur stole/bolero and red accessories.

The only thing that kind of makes it officey/casual I think is the collar. But go for it,

fruitbrewhaha · 10/11/2025 10:29

It does look like a work outfit to me.

SparkyBlue · 10/11/2025 10:31

Yes absolutely you can. You can dress it up and then it won’t get stuck hanging in the wardrobe as you will get day to day use out of it.

GreenHamster6 · 10/11/2025 10:33

Thanks everyone. I have worn it to work in the past! But I think it's quite versatile and looks nice dressed up as well. My hair will cover most of the collar which should help. I really feel the cold and have been looking for a dress with sleeves for ages and not seen anything I like but I do love this dress and I can't face doing anymore scrolling 😂

Just to clarify - I already own the dress, just couldn't get a good photo of me wearing it!

I think with some lovely jewelry you wouldn’t normally wear to work (big sparky earrings?) and a stole, a faux fur jacket or a lovely shawl and heels, you could definitely pull it off.

It will be totally fine for a winter wedding if you dress it up with accessories and heels.

GreenHamster6 · 10/11/2025 12:07

Thanks everyone, I'm going to go for it!

If you like it then wear it. I just hope it’s not at night time and snowing or you will blend in.

Sofaflop · 10/11/2025 17:36

I would. I hate seeing wedding guests dress up is something completely different to their usual style and in something theyll never wear again. Every wedding I've ever been to I've gone for something a bit special that I can wear to work.

GreenHamster6 · 10/11/2025 18:55

Next question...is it acceptable to wear black opaque tights to a wedding these days? Or is sheer black better? Or should I just go for nudes?

I think you need sheer black or nude to glam it up. Opaques are too worky.

SparkyBlue · 11/11/2025 16:34

The black opaques will make it look more like a work dress you need to glam it up so definitely sheer or nude

GreenHamster6 · 11/11/2025 18:25

Yes agreed, or maybe patterned tights.

Not very weddingy, but it's a nice dress. Depends how dressy the event is.

To fit with the glam vibe you want needs to be sheer black or nude. Opaque or patterned will give you the work feel
