Help neded with ideas for living room

Now that I finally have a seperate living room I want to make it really nice, but i'm worried about getting it wrong.

It is quite a nice light room, with light beech laminate flooring (would love carpet but can't afford right now), chocolate leather sofas and a light wood fireplace.

I was originally just going to paint it all a dark cream colour and have bits of green dotted about here and there in the form of vases, candles etc, with chocolate coloured curtains, but I have now seen some lovely green curtains and I am not sure they will go with all cream walls.

Just having a bit of a wobble generally i think, because I so want it to look nice.

These are the curtains, but looking at them now, I am not sure I still like them LOL.

Ok, forget the green curtains, i think they are too much green.

What about curtains in a fabric with a little green in them, to tie it together? I have cream walls and Ikea curtains with a pale green pattern on them - works quite well, I think, lol!

Oh, also, if the curtains have a white background, it can really 'lift' the room, even with cream walls.

I did think of that, but then wondered if that would still go with the chocolate sofas.

It would if i got cushions to tie it all in I suppose.

I think a pattern at the window would be nice with green accessories. I agree those curatins are a BIG expense of green. It would def. go with choc and cream.

Yes to green and cream and chocolate - sounds lovely. But no to those particular curtains - too much, imo.

IllegallyBrunette · 07/06/2008 12:36

I am crap at putting stuff together.

Trying to see if i can find some patterned curtains with green cream and choc in.

I did just find a feature walllpaper I liked, but I go off things too quickly so that might be a bad idea.

Don't wory about having green and cream and choc...I would go for just 2 colours and accessorise with a third.

maidamess · 07/06/2008 12:50

next have nice ones see how they've used vases etc that don't exactly match?

IllegallyBrunette · 07/06/2008 12:57

Oh I like those alot.
Also like the pic on the wall LOL.

Yeah they've got some really nice styles.. Not too OTT that you would get fed up with. You could get some funky cushion covers if you wanted a bold print in your room somewhere.

(God I would LOVE it if I was House Doctor)

IllegallyBrunette · 07/06/2008 13:01

You'd be good at it too

I will put a call out for you as I do each room LOL.

I have a friend whose room sounds almost the same, she has some lovely green cushions, vases, candles and a throw which she uses for an "accent" colour, it looks great.
She also a set of accessories in a heathery purple which she swaps with the green every now and then for a change!

maidamess · 07/06/2008 14:54

IB I would be honoured! House Doctor here we come!!

Grab yourself some housey mags - green is all the rage just now. Current months and maybe a couple of months ago too - I've seen it around for a while.

NotABanana · 07/06/2008 17:25

sorry.
