Silver brogues. How would you wear them?

Someone on another thread mentioned them and now I really want some! There’s loads on Vinted so I think they will be mine very soon.

I may have a night out soon, but it’ll be the only one this year (😂) so they’ll also be worn to work. I’m thinking jeans for both occasions. But tell me- how would you style them? What shape of jeans? Rolled up or long enough to hide the laces? Wide or tapered? And if I branched out and wore something that wasn’t jeans, what should that something be?

Charcoal wool trousers would work, or I'd be trying on different coloured opaque tights to see what they looked best with. Black dress & tights plus silver brogues - a lot depends on how shiny/smart the shoes are.

Floisme · 09/11/2025 22:40

I have some - it may have been me on that other thread!

I wear them with pretty much anything: flares, wide leg trousers (both full length and cropped at the ankle) and with straight leg rolled up jeans. Worn them with skirts a couple of times too although I don’t wear skirts or dresses that often.

I hope you like them and I honestly don’t think they need anything special in the way of styling.

@Floisme it was indeed you! Thanks, this is great!

I won’t buy the very shiny ones. I don’t like anything too clean-looking!!

I’ve got some that I wear for work, although mine are more pewter than silver. I wear them with short black skirts and black tights, or with black trousers.

Floisme · 10/11/2025 06:51

Yeah mine are probly more pewter than silver too. Clark’s. I’ve also got some gold ones. I got them when brogues were having a fashion moment a few years ago. I don’t know if they still do them but I’m sure there will be plenty on Vinted that are unworn / barely worn.

schoolsoutforever · 10/11/2025 07:28

I used to have have the pewter and also bronze ones from Clarks. I really loved them and you have inspired me to dig around to find the bronze ones that I think are still kicking around... I used to wear them with black skinnies (perfectly acceptable in 2015!) I might go straight leg now. Wides/boot cut wouldn't work. Short skirts with tights good though.

CleanSkin · 10/11/2025 07:38

I wear mine with anything I fancy! Jeans, posh frock, black trousers - they are so comfortable too.

Floisme · 10/11/2025 07:40

Why don’t you think they work with wides or boot cut @schoolsoutforever? I wear brogues (irrespective of colour) with most things. The only shape I didn’t think they worked with were ultra skinnies (and that was probably because by that time I’d gone off skinnies).

Grizelofthechaletschool · 10/11/2025 07:44

I have some Grenson silver brogues from years ago and wear them with literally anything. Best thing is they dress up easily so you can be comfy and still look fancy. I’ll prob wear mine next with a black velvet dress for my work Christmas do

petitpasta · 10/11/2025 07:47

You've inspired me to dig out my old Clarks silver brogues. Used to wear them with everything. They're really comfortable and I put them away one summer and they haven't come back out.

Yeah maybe. I'm probably not experimental enough! I just think a wide leg needs a bit more balance and the brogues I have are really neat and slimline but probably worth a punt again to see if I can make them work...

Floisme · 10/11/2025 08:21

Most of my wide legs finish at the ankle - I’m less keen on the floor sweepy length - so there’s generally a break between hem and shoe. Maybe why that’s why I think they look ok. Or maybe I’m just delusional Grin

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 10/11/2025 17:43

Mine are quite chunky/wedge-ish of heel and therefore I think they work with wide legs. I’ve got some more delicate tan ones and they definitely work better with cigarette trousers. They’re not very comfortable though, so rarely get an outing.

AlertCat · 10/11/2025 19:58

I prefer wide shoes- are there any brands you would recommend or avoid?

Would these old Clark's Sharon Noel shoes look ok? If so, happy days, they were so comfortable.

These are the ones I've got. They really are comfortable! I think they're fine for work. I wouldn't wear them for casual. My DP thinks they're the best shoes I own (he is wrong)!
