...but can't quite pull it off?

I love the oversized t shirt and bright, striped trouser look. However, I always look like I've raided a charity shop in the dark when I try it. It looks so mis-matched! 😂

Ha ha! I'm the same. Anything described as "oversized" is a no go for me - I always look bloody awful!
I would love to be able to pull off an elegant midi dress/skirt and heels. But the minute I slip on a pair of heels I lose the ability to walk properly and stagger about like a toddler who's soiled their nappy 😂

Heels, just really struggle and always face, think they look so elegant, especially as I have short sturdy legs!!

A halter neck or other sleeveless top that looks great on a flat chest and soft shoulders. I’m too pale, too angular and too busty.

Girlintheframe · 06/11/2025 08:21

I’d love to be able to wear wide legs trousers with a tight fitting top. Alas stomach is not a strong point of mine

TattooStan · 06/11/2025 08:22

I love that arty, unstructured look, with blousey layers and assymetrical hemlines and oversized, bright statement jewellery.

But I'm someone with exactly zero edge and less than zero artistic ability. I'm also petite, and drown in clothes that aren't very fitted. And I only actually feel comfortable in very delicate, discrete jewellery!

It looks fab on others though!

I also love women who really go for it with the vintage look - pin curls and red lipstick, often paired with red hair. But again - my zero edge prevents me from doing it!

Anything that requires being tall to pull it off. For example I like the idea of a long autumn skirt with boots, crunching over fallen leaves... At around 5 feet tall I’d look like a little girl trying on her mum’s clothes.

Come to think of it most nice boots I can’t wear either as I have very wide feet!

I am rather partial to the Toast aesthetic but only on other people. It seems to really suit some but when I wear it I look and feel v dowdy - Amish x Workhouse vibes.

I look quite good in more feminine clothes even though they are not always to my taste. Somehow, when I wear them I feel like me, but I don't often like them in terms of their aesthetic - It's quite odd!!

Stuckinhospital · 06/11/2025 09:01

The scandi nutual colours look.
Not only am I a foot too short I'm far too big and also a dirt magnet.

Floisme · 06/11/2025 09:03

No, if I like something I wear it. And I doubt I’ll be lying on my deathbed thinking, ‘I really shouldn’t have worn those wide leg trousers’.

SoScarletItWas · 06/11/2025 09:08

Wide leg jeans. I love wide leg trousers and have been wearing them since you could only get them from vintage repro brands. I am tall and carry them off easily.

So why, oh why, can I not get on with wide leg jeans?

I see other women wearing them and they look soft and flowy. Even when I’ve found some in an 32/33” leg, every single pair I’ve tried have been too stiff and the effect is not at all the same.

Perhaps I need to get the three ‘almost’ pairs out of the under bed drawer and jump up and down on them a bit 🤷🏻‍♀️

Knitted tank top over a shirt. I don't know whether it's a shirt too big or tank top too small but the shirt always seems to try escaping round the neckline.

I agree about wide leg jeans but I don't think it's to do with not having the right body for them. I just don't think denim is the best fabric for that style. It's not fluid enough unless it's either very flimsy or the denim is mixed with tencel or similar, which I don't like either because, before you know it, they've turned saggy and droopy.

I think you’re right, @Floisme.

Shorts in the summer time. Unfortunately I have such bad varicose veins I look like Im smuggling marbles!
Its why I live in dresses and skirts during the cooler months (when I can wear opaque tights with them).

lindyloo57 · 06/11/2025 16:09

I'd love to be able to very pointed shoes, but my feet won't let me.
