second hand is fine. he is currently wearing age 4-5. they come up to almost his knees - both of which have enormous (20-30cm) holes in because they are not wide enough for him to bend his legs in them so they have ripped. but he loves them and will only swap them for very similar - thank god i talked him out of wearing them to school for the pj party but it took some doing

You could get some in the US if you know someone there you can ship them to. If not, I'll think he'll have to hang on until at least October when you can stockpile them
