If you like Lucy & Yak…

What other brands are you into? Ive been a charity shop and cheapest possible dresser for many years and have just permitted myself to start spending some money on good clothes I like. But I don’t know where to start.

I love the fit and feel of L&Y cotton dungarees, and some of the prints, though there’s plenty I wouldn’t touch. I have three pairs now.

I liked the look of Joanie dresses advertised recently though I’m nervous about whether the fit would be flattering for me.

Any recommendations for what to look at next?

Have you had a look at Vinted? I started using it in earnest last year at a time when my body and work both changed quite a lot so it was useful to try different things. If you go for Lucy ajd yak type things at around the z£30 mark and then they’re not for you, you can generally get back what you paid for them.

Other clothes I like and find comfortable and have found on Vinted are Toast corduroy trousers, Oska, Wrap, and Poetry which I think are quite expensive new, but do those baggy trousers and comfortable shirts in good quality fabric. Roake Studios too.

Brands I would and have bought new as well as on Vinted include Manners London and On Baby, both small brands which make limited amounts or to order.

All of these I find comfy and easy to wear. Good luck!

Turtledove do some very comfortable cotton clothing. I found some of their trousers on vinted similar to Lucy and yak Alexas.

TurtleDoveLondon
(not to be confused with the folk who rework cashmere). They also have really good sales.

Ditto! Love turtledove.

Why not order the Joanie thing you like and if you don’t want it, send it back? No need to be nervous! I’ve had some Joanie stuff in the past, it’s nice enough.

What do you mean 'nervous '. You are trying an item of clothes on , not sitting an exam. If it doesn't fit send it back.
I have several Joanie dresses that I love and had for years now.
I have ordered some from them in the past that I hoped wou know i should just stick to the style that works for me best!!ld suit me but sadly they didnt. I

What about Sugerhill Brighton? Some lovely patterns and their quality is good.

I like Run & Fly as well for dungarees and pinafore dresses.
Ive also got some lovely dungarees off Vinted, very cheap.

Alot of my wardrobe is Joanie though (I hate faffing with returns so I bought a £5 Joanie dress off Vinted which I still wear to this day! They are pretty good with sizing).
Also Joanie have their own secondhand section on their website and a couple of times a year do 40% off sales which is usually the only time I buy non sale bits from them.

Go on Vinted, ‘favourite’ the brands you like and then Vinted will show you related items on your home page, works a bit like Spotify

badjeans · 11/11/2025 20:03

Thank you for all the recommendations, I’m enjoying working through them! And apologies that it took me so long to return and thank you @Perfidia- your suggestions were really appreciated.
