We arrived today, not ready for rain 🤔

My denim jacket is now soaking wet and I’m genuinely not sure it will be dry for tomorrow and there’s more rain forecast.

Is there somewhere you might recommend I go tomorrow to buy a rain jacket.

I don’t have one at home so I don’t mind. spending ££ and buying a decent one.

Thanks in advance

Not local but I’ve been - there is a large Zara so maybe head there?

Cockahoophappy · 02/11/2025 06:41

Thanks Newgirls for replying.

Idealky I’ll get a proper waterproof though rather than a fashion one.

I’m thinking Zara’s options will be showerproof at best 🤔

you’re going to struggle finding sops open on a sunday in spain

Cyclingmummy1 · 02/11/2025 07:33

Is there an outlet village nearby? That's what we did last Sunday in Portugal. Added bonus that the mall next door was also open so could grab some lunch.

Cockahoophappy · 02/11/2025 09:22

I hadn’t thought about it being Sunday 🤔
It’s different when you’re away isn’t it?
Saturday? Wednesday? Sunday.
They are all just holiday 😁

Never mind. The sun is out now.

If there are any SS locals on line though, I’m loving your city.

I’m loving San Sebastián even more.
We got on the bus today to go to Getaria, expecting to be able to pay with card or phone. The driver said we needed cash but I only had €50 note.
An immensely kind (and I’m guessing local) woman paid our €5 fare for us 😚

I’m glad you’re having such a lovely time.

I’m from northern Spain and it’s a shame how many people miss out on the beauty of the north, but i understand the weather can be unpredictable and people want to make sure they spend their holiday where there will be guaranteed sun.

That is so lovely. Made my day reading that. Don’t even know why I opened the thread as I have nothing to contribute, but I’m glad I did!

I’m a local!! So pleased you’re loving it. Not sure why he wouldn’t let you pay with card though unless it was a coach type of bus in which case I’ve had the same problem, cash or bus pass only (the airport bus is like this!) Did you do the Balenciaga museum in Getaria?!

For waterproof coats look at the shop called “oysho” which is on the corner of boulevard - it’s a sort of sportswear/lingerie type place. Also do check out our Zara, it’s the second biggest in Spain and so good compared to uk Zara and much cheaper.

I would also recommend (as this is style and beauty!) the shoe shops Hoff and Hispanitas and a browse round Massimo Dutti!

Also for the best Spanish omelette in the city go to a tiny bar called Adamo at the end of the beach in Gros. Absolutely divine. The guidebooks will have you spending loads in the old part instead. La Vina cheesecake is worth the queues.

EspanaPorfavor · 03/11/2025 16:57

PS regarding raincoats I think the shop Hawaii San Sebastián sells the brand Tanta Rainwear which is proper waterproof stuff

WithIcePlease · 03/11/2025 17:14

Ooh if there's an oysho you should be able to buy a waterproof there. They had some lovely ones when I went earlier this year - a sort of pearl grey stood out as v sophisticated - I think it had a bit of a sheen.
Sadly, I have waterproof coats in different lengths and couldn't justify another.

Thank you all for your posts.
I did manage to find some coins at the bottom of my bag so was able to repay a few euros but I’m still feeling bad that this stranger is out of pocket because of me.

I wonder if the driver thought we only had phones and actually we could have used a physical card. I did have one but as soon as he saw our phones, he just said we had to have cash.

Thanks for the shopping recommendations.

I don’t think I can eat any more after yesterday’s pintxos marathon and today’s turbot fest so it might be some retail therapy tomorrow 😃
