Oud is an unpleasant smell

I used to enjoy shopping for perfume and makeup but have noticed recently that the overpowering smell of oud from so many perfumes is destroying my experience particularly in beauty halls of department stores, Selfridges etc. It's just not a smell I enjoy, though obviously many others must do. Reminds me of the 90s when the stench of Giorgio Beverly Hills was everywhere. Am I alone in noticing this?

Some people might say they don't like the smell of haggis or Cullen skink but I wouldn't take that as a racist insult to Scotland 🙄.

There are smells we like and some we don't.

I haven’t had Cullen skink in yonks! 😋

Think of the most intense wood resin. Some Indian Oud smells like poop on a farm whilst others are almost fruity /leather , Thai Oud is warm and spicy, Malaysian Oud is rich and has a wood polish tone. Cambodian oud is used a lot in perfume because it has a way of holding all the other notes like fruit in a bowl. Chinese Oud is bloody expensive and has a high pitch to it - very bright, green tea, natural varnish and freshly cut grass.
I get mine from Shams at Oxford Oud. He sells other perfume too and if you let him know that you want to see what oud smells like he will send you samples.
