Foundation for someone who hates the feeling of foundation?!?

I really need to start wearing some make up again, im pale and washed out looking. I get asked a lot if im tired or not feeling well. Late 50s. I work in a customer service role and want to try to look at bit better.
But apart from a bit of moisturiser I hate feeling anything on my face. Hate applying sunscreen in summer, it absolutely gives me the ick.
I have went to john Lewis and tried a couple of make overs at the beauty counters but really didn't like the feel of anything on my face, although I explained what I wanted beforehand.
So im trying to find something myself.
Can anyone help?

I use Estée Lauder futurist hydra foundation. My daughter uses Erborian CC cream the Ginseng baby face one

I've started using Laura Geller Baked foundation & find it's so much lighter on my skin than liquid foundation. You can build it up for better coverage & it still doesn't feel like you have anything on your skin

i use a good tinted moisturiser mixed into a dollop of good moisturiser - I’m 63 - I immediately look much better!! Facial tanning drops can help too

Elf halo glow

Bare Minerals original foundation is epic, don’t bother with their primer though. Use normal skin care stuff underneath

Stardogchampion · 03/11/2025 13:37

Maybe Glossier skin tint

Is foundation absolutely necessary, if you really don't like it? Could you not use blusher for colour and enhance a different area of your face - e.g. I like liquid eyeliner and mascara so focus there, but you could do bright lipstick. I don't think it is foundation or nothing.

I use the Trinny London BFF SPF cream for my everyday. I love it and have used it for years. It goes on and sort of adapts to your skin colour, not really a tinted moisturiser or a foundation I’d say it’s more minimal than that. Very light weight and feels like ordinary moisturiser. Doesn’t really give any coverage but more sort of evens skin tone and gives a glow. I add a small dab of some light concealer (I use a L’Oréal one) to my under eyes and smooth with fingers, then I use the Clinique chubby stick blush and dab a bit on my cheeks and blend out with a brush. Then some mascara and brow gel. Feels very minimal and I feel like I’m barely wearing anything on my face but I definitely look more alive! I love the Elizabeth Arden tinted spf lip balm too, I have the pinker shade for summer and darker plum for winter. I add that too and it looks more natural than full lipstick. And the whole thing takes me 5 mins.

Try the natural cream. It doesn't have as strong a powdery feel as foundation. It's as easy to apply as face cream and you don't need to remove your makeup.

The thing is, you're always going to feel foundation or tinted moisturiser once it's just been applied. I can feel even my primer once I.Ve put it on.

You do need to wait some time.Eventually, you won't feel it any more once it dries.

I'm no beautician but I do allow tinted moisturiser to settle before I apply foundation, finally using a setting spray.
I need to wear glasses and they still get makeup on them.
Unhelpful I know.

Bare minerals tinted moisturiser think it’s called complexion rescue. I don’t like the thicker one (black) but the thinner one (gold) is fantastic. Don’t feel it after a few minutes and I’m a person that never used to wear make up.

Boots no7 bb cream is really light, literally
just like u have a moisturiser
on for A small
time. If not have u tried just putting moisturiser and go straight to a light bronzer? Again i use no 7 in maple when i do this, sometimes
my my skin is too dry for foundation or bb cream but i still want a
Bit of
colour. It lasts well and doesn’t looked
caked at
all if u put it on just gently like u would a blush.

If you don't like the feel of it don't wear it. I wouldn't worry about what other people say about your appearance.

When I started regularly going for a swim before work I was feeling really good about myself and imagined I was glowing from doing regular exercise. Then I had a morning meeting with a colleague and they said 'are you OK, you look a bit flustered and stressed'! Clearly I wasn't 'glowing' in quite the right way 😂 but that didn't stop me exercising.

another vote for powdered foundation. I hate the feeling of stuff on my face too. Foundation makes my jaw line and nose itch. I can tolerate bare minerals pressed powdered foundation when I have to.

But, even then I wear it rarely. I had my colours done and stick to wearing colours that suit my skin tone. Well groomed hair, eyebrows and striking glasses (not Dame Edna) are my no make up solutions.

Are you getting enough sleep? Eating well? Exercise? Maybe you need to look after yourself in other ways?
