Are sparkles just for Christmas?

Bought this dress and wore it for work today. DH asked why I'm wearing a Christmas dress. He thinks this dress is suitable for December only. I'm wearing it anyway, but wondered if other people restrict sparkles to the festive period.

That looks quite subtle to me, not especially like a party dress.

I dont think its normal to wear sparkles the rest of the year but who wants to look 'normal' anyways!😆

MaplePumpkin · 23/10/2025 09:56

I think the sparkle on that is very subtle, so wouldn’t see that as in any way festive. I have a huge range of full on, in your face, glittery sequin dresses that I love wearing in December and probably wouldn’t wear them any other time of year. Unless it was a hen do or something like that, definitely worn gold glitter in August for a hen do before! Or some sort of themed party in the summer, I think full on sequin works in golden hour on a summers night!
I think your dress is absolutely fine for now, and anyway… Christmas is only around the corner!!!

GarlicHound · 23/10/2025 09:58

Nope! Nice dress.

S/S26 had MASSES of shine and sparkle, so you're ahead of the curve! Feel smug 🌟

EverardDeTroyes · 23/10/2025 10:01

I wore a grey, very lightly sparkly jumper with a big snowflake motif the other day. It was originally bought as a Christmas jumper but it's become a bit bobbly since, and I have another, nicer Christmas jumper now, so, yes, why not? If I don't wear it more often than at Christmas, it wouldn't get worn at all and what a waste that would be of a good garment. But then, I'm not one of those people who buys things just for a short season, eg Christmas pjs. If I had Christmas pjs I would wear them all winter.

The moral of the story is not to listen to fashion advice from one’s husband.

Unless he’s just taken over the running of a globally admired design house.

This whole season is all the better for sequins and crystals and mohair and jewel coloured silks and velvets and whatever. How else to we drag ourselves through months of sunless days?

AndeanFlamingo · 23/10/2025 10:24

It feels Christmassy to me but you should wear what you want, when you want.

dudsville · 23/10/2025 12:10

That's a very subtle sparkle, you shall bring like to a dark autumn!

LaurieFairyCake · 23/10/2025 12:54

Trinny wears sequins most days. She looks fabulous !

MagpiesAreBastards · 23/10/2025 12:57

I have a very similar one, arrived last week. I don't plan to save it for Christmas. I can't justify having things in my wardrobe for one day a year.

leporello · 23/10/2025 12:57

I have a silver sequinned midi skirt that I often wear at weekends with a slouchy jumper - why the hell not? Dark times of year are made for a bit of sparkle imo.

Lottapianos · 23/10/2025 13:09

I can't stand Christmas so I avoid wearing anything remotely 'Christmassy' in December. That means that I do my sparkle and red lipstick all the other months of the year! Just be prepared for plenty of tedious comments about how 'Christmassy' you look 🙄

Mantari · 23/10/2025 15:06

That is such a cute dress. So cute I had to buy it!

MN is very bad for my bank balance sometimes...

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 23/10/2025 16:23

I must be weird because to me that’s definitely a Christmas/December dress. It’s lovely!

AhBiscuits · 24/10/2025 07:18

I shall continue to sparkle, season be damned 😄

It's not as green as it looks in some of the pictures, it has a blue / teal tone.

Have You got a standard length or one of the shorter lengths ? I’m intrigued that there seems to be both a short length and a petite. I had been looking at a similar style dress from Roman and had the same thoughts as you as to whether the sparkliness was too Christmas-like. I think this dress is a bit more subtle and was wondering about the length as I’m quite short and like just on or slightly above knee length.

AhBiscuits · 26/10/2025 06:26

I got standard length. It's just over my knees. I'm 5ft 4.

I wear sparkles when on nights out.

tuvamoodyson · 27/10/2025 12:16

Looks Christmassy to me 🤷🏼‍♀️
