I have a family member who lives in a hot country coming for Christmas. She will need thermals to survive the Scottish winter in comfort, but I'm not sure where to find nice ones for her.

Best guess for her size is a UK 24-26.

Any recommendations for plus size brands that make ones that feel nice against the skin and work well?

Has anyone in this size range tried the Uniqlo heatech range? Will the XXL fit?
I like the M&S ones too, but it looks like they only go to a 22, and I'm not sure how generous their bigger sizes are.

I’m a size 18 and have various Uniqlo stuff. I’m an XL or XXL depending.

i wouldn’t expect any Uniqlo sizing to fit at 22-24

mumonthehill · 22/10/2025 13:04

Mountain warehouse might be a good bet and you could buy mens tops in xxl or xl. Uniglo ones are stretchy so their xxl might fit and they are thin which is good.

Perfidia · 22/10/2025 13:06

@LazyJemima If you google best plus size thermal underwear you’ll get a good AI overview, with names of brands.

As pp mentiond try a mens XXL from somewhere like M&S or my partner has some from H&M I think these will be much more comfortable, I'm a 16 with big belly and wear Uniqlo xl or xxl and they are always rolling up over my belly.

blankcanvas3 · 22/10/2025 13:15

My friend is a 22/24 and the largest uniqlo size fits her.

InSpainTheRain · 22/10/2025 13:21

Mountain warehouse goes up to size 24 (I was a 24/26 last year and that was fine for me). Next is also a good source as it goes up to size 24. If you are looking for outwear in larger sizes Ulla Popken is amazing (but pricey). I have found Uniqlo to be too skimpy on sizes for me.

Have a look at the Simply Be website OP.

I think the 22 m&s will be bigger than the xxl Uniqlo.

They are both the same otherwise, they both licence the same patented material.

I have the thick leggings from m&s, they are pretty stretchy. I’m a 14/16 but 8m pregnant and the 16s still still go over my bump fine. They are very comfy but and very warm- it’s still far too hot for them in London!

GoodDayApple · 22/10/2025 14:15

Yeah forget Uniqlo thermals though they are great they will not fit a 24 or 26. Simply be like PP said

GoodDayApple · 22/10/2025 14:15

and I'd err on the safer side and order 26 instead of 24.

Onefinenight · 22/10/2025 14:47

Have you tried Damart.?

comeondover · 22/10/2025 15:06

Dilling filter by size and you'll find the thermals. Soft, non-itchy, non-mulesed merino from Denmark

IsadoraQuagmire · 22/10/2025 15:25

I was looking at thermal tops on M&S earlier, and a lot of the reviewers said how tightly their usual size fitted and that they had sized up, even by several sizes. One person said she was normally a 10-12, but had bought a size 20 to get the looser fit she was after! So I'd bear that in mind.

Dilling are great, I have some myself, but a bit pricey for something that will only get two weeks use :-/

Thanks, I didn't realise they went up to this size. I'll check out the Ulla Popkin stuff too.

I didn't know about them, I'll check it out. Do they feel smooth against the skin?

Definitely don't get the M&S thermals. I'm usually 14/16. I bought size 20 and it's skin tight! Which is a pity for your relative because they are good value.

I size down for M and S thermal tops. I'm a 14 and buy 10s and 8s. I don't want any bulk under dresses or jumpers / cardigans

triplechoc · 23/10/2025 07:31

Bon Marche have thermals that go up to size 26/28, although not everything is in stock at the minute.
