Need a raincoat that is lightweight and breathable!

Hi all,

After getting absolutely soaked on my commute this morning I'm turning to the hive mind to help me find a new coat! I need a waterproof raincoat that is also lightweight and breathable. I commute in London so I need something which will do for a 15 min walk to/from the station on either end, but also means I won't overheat on the train. Ideally I'm looking for something in beige/natural/khaki/or burgundy, and something which is parka/longer length as I'm tall. Please share your recommendations, no budget as I'm happy to spend for the right thing.

Protected Species! I just bought one after seeing it recommended on here and it’s ace. Super lightweight, waterproof and chic. Perfect

Protected species here too. They are expensive but you can often pick them up off Vinted.

Sweaty Betty stride waterproof parka. Available in 2 lengths

Thank you!! They look great. I like the look of this but not sure whether to go for fleece lined or not: https://www.protected-species.com/product/winter-odyssey-warm-taupe-fleece-lined/

Another option is this one from scamp & dude - I like how it's a little bit different:

I’ve got a fleece lined and a non lined one. The fleece is very thin, definitely not winter weight but does add a bit of warmth. I recently ordered the one you linked to (odyssey) and it was lovely but swamped me. If I was taller it would have been fab.

Sproufortheelf · 20/10/2025 20:36

I have the Odessy (non lined) and it’s looovely. Size down though as it is big and I wouldn’t recommend if you’re very short

I love my Regatta Pack-It waterproof jacket. Much better than more expensive coats I've bought!

Thank you - I think I am going to go for it. What size did you get and what size are you normally?

The Scamp and Dude one doesn't mention breathability so am wondering if it will be a bit hot on public transport...

I have the same issue with London commute. I went for a Hobbs one from vinted. Got it for £10. When it arrived I washed it in the tekwax stuff to ensure it definitely was waterproof.

Just popped on and looking at these Protected Species raincoats, are the sleeves quite long, I'm 5'10", size 14, long arms, looking at medium size, I see there is a 10% discount for a first time customer if you submit your email address.
