I just want to buy a skirt!

Coming up to winter I’ve been looking for at least one skirt. I want a straight, knee length, not too thin, textured stretch material skirt, preferably in charcoal grey or black, to wear with thick tights and boots.

All I can find are minis, or longer floaty or pleated skirts, but not one in the style and length I want, either online, or in physical shops. At one time M&S was full of easy to wear clothing, suitable for the more mature woman. As was the sadly missed Debenhams. I’ve tried Next, Bon Marche, Roman etc. Any sightings would be greatly appreciated.

It difficult to get skirts full stop. I hate that midi is almost maxi now. Good luck with search.

I’m 45 and still very much wear my mini skirts. Though always with good opaque black tights and no revealing tops. I’m quite short though which helps as means the skirts are never super short and always go for a flared style rather than straight as straight just does nothing for my figure. Joe Brown’s sometimes have some more like you’ve described though so could be worth a look. Good luck, I hate when I can’t find a style I like too.

I got these for my DD for school and they’re quite a nice thick material and go up to a large size - www.marksandspencer.com/school-senior-regular-fit-pencil-skirt-9-18-yrs-/p/clp60558268#intid=pid_pg1pip25g4r3c1

Thanks for the suggestions, the M&S ones look very smooth material, but I’ll have a proper look. The Next ones unfortunately aren’t stretch material. I’m late 70s, no longer have a great waistline so tailored styles don’t fit well.

I bought a couple of skirts from Edinburgh Woollen Mill in the summer and ended up wearing them all the time.

This one might be worth a look - it’s hard to see what it’s like as there is no picture on a model, but length says 27”

Have you looked at Vinted ?

BigBurrata · 19/10/2025 22:37

Also this one from Cotton Traders

RedRiverShore5 · 19/10/2025 22:38

Seasalt have a corduroy one but it doesn't look very stretchy

Seymour5 · 20/10/2025 07:40

Sorry, don’t want A line. Corduroy looks great, but I need the stretch! The M&S skirt (up thread) is exactly the right style, I just hoped for more texture, but I think I’ll buy it anyway.

I had a look at Vinted, but nothing stood out. Also looked in local charity shops. I got rid of some last winter, because I’ve lost quite a bit of weight. I wish I’d kept them, my friend would have altered them, but I expected to find replacements.

I would keep looking on Vinted, constantly changing.

Seymour5 · 20/10/2025 15:27

Thanks, butbI don’t want A line or flared. Already been suggested.
