New to this make-up palava - waterproof or non waterproof mascara?

I never use waterproof because of course it's much harder to get off at the end of the day.

Why have waterproof anyway? Unless yr planning to cry a lot that day (and I hope you aren't )

I never know what to choose either but currently have a Max Factor one which is OK.

You should change yr mascara every 6mo anyway so don't spend too much.
