Older boys red tartan (plaid/check) trousers quest

Serenitesanta · 13/10/2025 21:40

Can anyone please help me find a pair of dressy but not too formal red/blue tartan trousers for a boy aged 13yrs.
They must be traditional red tartan but not a particular tartan and I don’t want to spend over £25, preferably Vinted if possible!
All I can find are loungewear or green/beige ones
I thought I’d have loads of choice but 🤷‍♀️

Lets try this again..

Serenitesanta · 13/10/2025 22:53

Thanks so much for looking.
I have seen those ones - I am staggered that no other high street brands are doing something like this for older boys!
They must be somewhere 🙄

They are somewhere, @Serenitesanta there are the ones I suggested?

They’re really not much of a thing, - will the Tartan Weaving Mill ones not do? Is your budget firm at £25 and do they have to be red?

Serenitesanta · 14/10/2025 01:07

Thanks so much
I’ve no problem going second hand!
Budget has a bit of flex but for a one off I’d like to keep it on lower side.
They do need to be red.
I’m surprised there’s not more out there - sort of Boden type preppy style

The touristy shops in Edinburgh sell cheapo trews, but they really do look cheap IMO - flimsy material and elasticated waists. I'm not sure whether they have children's sizes.

Serenitesanta · 14/10/2025 08:59

Thanks so much - I’ll measure these against ones he has atm.
I've also emailed that shop in Edinburgh, Armstrongs, so will see what they say.
I would love to get lucky on vinted!
I’ll look at the green boden ones but I think they need to be red.

I'm just intrigued about what you need them for OP? Is it a wedding?

Me, too. Is it for a costume? Would PJ bottoms do.

Ah, I've just noticed that the OP said "no loungewear". It also said "dressy" so my other thought - punk - is also out the window!Grin

Serenitesanta · 14/10/2025 14:29

Hi thanks for the interest - it’s for a winter wedding and be a boy who likes to be a little more daring in his clothes than others!
And he wants red tartan trousers - I thought it’d be a question of picking which ones, not actually not being able to find any!
Any other suggestions for 13 year old boy who wants to wear something a bit more different to a wedding would be very welcome - I’m not seeing any inspiration in the shops 🤯

Armstrong's usually has a very good range of inexpensive second-hand kilts...

Serenitesanta · 14/10/2025 15:40

Not a kilt - just tartan trousers

Sorry, the second pair might be women’s?
I searched for check trousers rather than tartan and filtered for
men’s
xs, s, waist 26/28/30
and the colour multi and red
looks to be a few

Talipesmum · 14/10/2025 15:53

Yes you might have more luck including search for women’s too.
