Very stretchy waist jeans

I’ve lost nearly a stone and my jeans are very loose on my bum and thighs but still fit around the waist. I wear M&S Sienna straight jeans. Looking for something similar with a very stretchy waist so I can go down a size. My waist is 35 inches, bum 40. I’ve always been a similar shape, even when thin - no waist.

Following!
I carry all my weight on my tummy, I will get the overhang removed when I've completed my weight loss journey, but I've got sparrows legs and nothing fits properly.

Many, many years ago when I bought jeans I would put them on and sit in a bath of cold water which would apparently make them shrink to fit.

I'm not convinced it worked but let me know if it works for you!

I used to find Next jeans had a good waist to hip ratio for apple shapes. Haven’t tried them for a while though, I wear Halara wide legs at the moment.

I really want to buy a pair of halara jeans but had a bad experience with their dresses and skirts! 🙈 Do you rate the halara jeans? Are they really heavy like their other clothes? Or stretchy and light?

DelphiniumBlue · 13/10/2025 09:16

I’ve got a few pairs of the Halara wide leg jeans. They are quite lightweight for jeans, and hang very nicely. I wear XL petite, I’m an 18-20 ( ie M&S are slightly too tight on the waist in an 18, but too big on the hips in 20) and 5’3 with proportionately longer legs. I did try them in a regular length, which are fine in summer when it’s dry and you don’t mind the hem hitting the ground , but for autumn I prefer them slightly shorter.

Ive also got the flared leg ones from Halara, but don’t like them as much, the material is a bit too thin to look good on the thighs and bum, although they fit fine. I’m not explaining that very well, the material is the same as the wide leg ones but I think a tighter fit style looks better in a more substantial fabric.
Ive got the waffle wide leg trousers for work, would recommend those too.
Returns can be difficult, although when I wanted to return some shorts, they just said to keep them and they refunded me anyway. I did find them very helpful re sizing queries when I was debating which size to buy.

I'll take a look at Next jeans, but no local store currently.

None of the jeans I've looked at online give measurements that match mine. The waist is too small when the hip size is right.

Forgot to say, I don't really want to pay more than £35 for a pair.

I;m an apple shape and just bought the primark mid rise flare jeans. A steal at £8. Lots of give around my tummy and very smart - 5 colours I think

Apprenante · 16/10/2025 16:46

Bon marché - various lengths and a bit stretchy. Elasticated at side waist.

Jeans that are elasticated at the side of the waist might be the answer, but I want them to look like normal jeans, not baggy on the bum. I'm not a fan of Bonmarché though.

M&a jeggings (boot cut , straight or flare) the legs don’t need to be tight

wherewillwegoto · 20/10/2025 15:25

I don't really want jeggings, hoping I can find some jeans with a generous waist.

Hi @wherewillwegoto - I was in an almost identical position earlier this year, where my beloved Siennas didn't fit in my old size, but were still too small in my new one. The answer was M&S Sophia - they're just cut differently and worked in the size down when the Siennas didn't.

In my case, I dropped from a 16 Sienna to a 14 Sophia.

I buy mine from Vinted, there are always some on there.

NotMeNoNo · 20/10/2025 16:37

M&S magic shaping straight jeans are very stretchy compared to basic Sienna jeans, worth a try.

Heard lots of good things about halara jeans. If you get some, come back and update us.

Uniqlo do elastic waist jeans (called Ezy Jeans). They are unisex and sizes from xs to 3xl. They also do free alterations in store. Not sure how good they are - I haven’t tried them.

wherewillwegoto · 22/10/2025 01:35

M&S don't seem to make the Sophia jeans anymore sadly.
