Ive bought this dress to wear to a black tie do but don’t know how to accessorise it?
I'm tall so like to wear heels but not very good at wearing heels!

Do my shoes have to match my bag?
Could I have patent black shoes - theyre my go-to going out heel- with a different coloured bag?

would love some ideas!

What a gorgeous dress!

Can you go with a silver bag and silver jewellery?

Overtheatlantic · 06/10/2025 00:32

You can wear a black patent leather heel but I think a 3-inch black sling back would be perfect. Keep your bag black and wear simple earrings like diamond studs. It’s a classic little black dress and should be styled in a classic way.

For day, simple studs. Small handbag with a handle.

For evening, earrings that swing. And perhaps a bracelet . Yes to high heels with tights. And I don’t mind an evening clutch as a coloured accessory. Black, silver or gold (depending upon your earrings) of course but also pink, red, a brighter blue might be fun.

Thanks for your ideas.
Can you see that it’s navy not black?

I’d like a bag that pops- gold? Pink? Jewel tones?

Im super tall and find it difficult to wear heels but I think this dress needs them?

Would you match earrings and bag?
Rather than bag and shoes?

Lovely dress.

I wouldn’t match anything, especially not the bag and shoes - that’s dated look. I agree it needs heels. I’d wear it with Esska Celeste shoes in a clashing colour. I have these ones and they’re gorgeous and I’ve never once worn them without someone complimenting them.

Celeste Velvet Burnt Orange

Embrace vintage vibes with the Celeste Velvet Burnt Orange. This groovy 70s-style closed-toe Charlie shoe boasts a cozy block heel and platform, keeping you comfy from dusk till dawn. With its fun T-bar and ankle strap, it offers both flair and support...

Why do you need to match anything? Match matchy is very old fashioned

TheSandgroper · 06/10/2025 23:36

Well, black shoes and black tights are just a background. If I had a fabulous bag that would work, yes, I would match earrings and bag. Silver earrings with a gold bag would look odd.

But my answer depends a bit on what you have to work with.

@Tobermory it’s a lovely dress.

Comefromaway · 06/10/2025 23:36

That’s a lovely dress. I can’t wear heels, my calves go into spasm but I’m short so my go to would be a block heel or a kitten heel.

Do you want to buy a bag. I agree a colour or metallic would be lovely but I have one good evening bag (Bottega) that I make go to everything so don’t worry too much about them matching.
