What do men wear to a wedding with a "cocktail" dress code

Just that really... my DH is going to a wedding. Attire is cocktail

I have no idea what this means. Im not going but would just wear something I liked.

I've said it means a suit - crisp and maybe no tie a balance between formal and casual

Any ideas mumsnet? I can't imagine its a patterned jacket after a look on google .. they cant expect folk to go buy outfits thyenwont wear again...

I would just assume the men are expected to wear suits.

Thanks both ... Yeah so thats what I thought... a suit not a tux... but not sure who doesn't wear a suit to a wedding unless dress code says black tie.. so thats the confusion... its just normal wedding attire..

Maybe its to stop the ladies in hats im not sure... but he is stressing now!

agree with others, it’s a lounge suit. But then cocktail dress code for women is more evening than smart day dress.

And DH has JUST purchased a velour jacket.. in a mustard gold 🤔 i found the GQ link too late to note "tone it down for a wedding"
