Nail split across nail bed. Anyway to fix it?

My nail has split across my nail bed. It keeps on catching in my hair and I worry it's going to rip off if I catch it.

This happens a lot if my nails grow past 1.5mm as they are so weak and thin. I have tried super glue before but it doesn't last. Any fixes that Last until it grows out?

Can you use a sticking plaster to stop it catching?

I never found a good result from anything yet!

The way I was taught is to rip a piece of loo roll (single ply, dont use the full thickness) and wrap round the torn part of nail and glue down with clear nail varnish, pushing it under with a nail stick and glueing the underside too.

It’s better than nothing but it’s not great.

Tea bag plus superglue. You can use the edge of the teabag for extra strength, then once it's dry file/buff it smoother.

Could do but this is so far back it's going to take weeks to grow out

Thanks everyone. I have tried the Teabag method now. Also superglue my fingers together for a while. I will report back if it lasts.

Just to report back that it's been a week and repair is still going strong. I will report back when it fails but definitely worth a try for a split very far down the nail.

Glad to hear it worked @ChocolateBoxCottage

It will fail at some point so you might need to redo it but it should buy you a bit of time.

ChocolateBoxCottage · 10/10/2025 18:28

Typically it popped off a few hours after posting! I have redone it now. Even if this next fix lasts 4 days the split will be high enough to file out so that is a win.

Thanks for this, @ChocolateBoxCottage, I also have very weak and thin nails that tend to rip low down. I've been known to break a nail opening an envelope and picking up a banana....

I shall bear the tea bag method in mind from now on.

Also I used superglue and bi-carb. Then filed it flat. Very little of both.
