Hello, I need to buy teen DD a black mascara but she has terribly sensitive eyes, as do I, but hers are worse.
I have found my eyes can cope with Bobbi Browns Smokey eye mascara, and I’ll buy that for her if necessary. I just wondered if there was anything brilliant and cheaper than £31!

The ELF lash xtndr mascara is really good, stays firmly put, and only needs warm water to remove which helps my eyes. Also only £8

Imgoingoutforawhile · 01/10/2025 20:02

i like Clinique lash power as I suffer from blepharitis and I like that you can gentle wash it off with hot water
it’s pricey though so will be on the look out for the ELF one that a pp has mentioned

I've quit using mascara for the last few months as it was irritating me. Does she need mascara?

DisforDarkChocolate · 01/10/2025 20:22

I don't get on with ELF but I was good with Victoria Beckham's, it was pricey though.

I'm thinking of getting them tinted by the woman who does my brows.

Charlotte Tilbury works well on my sensitive eyes - but at £28 it's not much cheaper

Handeyethingyowl · 01/10/2025 20:40

I get La Roche Posay black mascara from Amazon (La Roche Posay shop, it is hard to get in the UK) and it’s great. It is for sensitive eyes.

I know, I know- but yes she does, it’s for a stagey, costume, acting job thing.

I haven’t tried millions as I stopped with Clinique when it was the only one which didn’t make my eyes itchy and watery

Hamsterdamn · 01/10/2025 20:55

Thanks all. I’ll try ELF and move up
the price range!
which Clinique mascara don’t use @MargotMoon as I’m sure I used to use it, and it was fine, but I bought a different one of theirs and it irritated me. But now I can’t remember which was which!

Rimmel Kind + Free Volume & Length mascara is the only mascara I can use on my sensitive eyes. I went without mascara for years as I couldn’t find anything that didn’t irritate. But this is really, really good and only about £6.

I use the high impact waterproof and use their take the day off liquid to remove it

l'oreal lash paradise castor oil enriched for sensitive eyes is the only one I can use, but it dose smudge if not careful. There is a water proof one which I can also use but I don’t like the feel as much.

I keep my eyes regularly washed out and also use allergy drops daily, but that’s more habit from years of issues with sensitive eyes.

MrsRhubarbBikini · 02/10/2025 08:37

Boots No.7 tubing mascara is the one I’ve switched to, my eyes have got more sensitive with age.

OneRealRosePlayer · 02/10/2025 08:49

Maybe try dark brown. I had sensitive eyes and discovered there is something in black mascara and black eyeliner that i react to.

Beingacatbed · 02/10/2025 09:40

I have sensitive eyes and have tried lots of different ones (can’t use the elf ones) best i’ve found are any of the clinique ones or loreal panorama

Hamsterdamn · 03/10/2025 08:55

Thanks all! I’ve ordered a La Roche Posay in black, thinking, well that’s a gentle brand, their sunscreen is great for DD skin, but now I think about it I seem to remember buying it for myself in the past and reacting. It makes sense that it’s something in the black that causes the reaction. I’m now going to tho k about dark brown. She’s been told she needs to make her eyes look larger, so they can be seen from afar, she has naturally dark lashes, so brown could work.

Did you know that black bras are always slightly smaller than other colours? At least that’s what Togbyband Peller told me, many moons ago.

No 7 tubing mascara is great. It neves smudges and removed with warm water

EchoedSilence · 31/01/2026 17:05

Rimmel Extra super lash is the only one I can wear without getting itchy red eyes.

SisterTeatime · 31/01/2026 19:32

I changed from Clinique Lash Power to ELF Lash Xtendr recently and I prefer the ELF. I also will replace probably monthly as it’s so much cheaper, and my eyes like brand new mascara better than one even a couple of months old. With a more expensive one it’s tempting to eke it out.
