Are superdry puffer coats any good?

PyongyangKipperbang · 30/09/2025 20:07

Lets skip over the fact that I am in my 50's and will look a right fixture in Superdry, I want a decent coat!

We have a charity shop locally that sells old seasons clothes from major retailers and they have some long line puffer coats from SD for £60. They are genuine.

But will it keep me warm? I seem to feel the cold so much more these days.

I bought a long line super dry puffa coat two winters ago.

bloody lovely and cosy but I don’t feel like a mitchellin man in it 🤣

it’s perfect for beach walks in the windy biting weather

I normally wear a thin jumper underneath as it gets too hot with anything thicker

ooh thats sounds perfect then!

And the price is really good so I was hoping I would get positive opinions!

Feel like a bit of berk for not knowing that its puffa and not puffer........

Thanks!

I bought a lovely puffer coat from Tog24 half price in the outlet sale. I've never worn one before but I needed one for my visit to Lithuania in February when its minus 22. My dsis said don't come over without a big coat.

Tinseltrauma · 01/10/2025 08:02

I have a superdry one too. It's much warmer than my previous Next version, you've got a great price there, I'd go for it!

mynumber · 01/10/2025 08:06

I see loads of dog walking women of all ages wearing these where I live and they look great!
I’ve read really good reviews on mumsnet about them too.
I’m planning on buying one this year!
Where is this wonderful charity shop 😜?!

Girlintheframe · 01/10/2025 08:09

I got one for superdry years ago and it is still my go to coat for very cold weather dog walks. I love it. It keeps me warm and dry. I’m in my 50s too!

Butthechildrentheylovethebooks · 01/10/2025 08:19

Absolutely loving the use of 'right fixture' 😂 Never heard that before but will be using from now on.
I agree with PP re Superdry coats. Great for the price.
I have a new winter coat I'm looking forward to wearing. Its a longer length black puffa style. DS said I look like 'every single mum at a football match' 😂.

willowstar · 01/10/2025 09:02

I bought two last year and had problems with the zip on the pockets of them both in that I couldn't get the zip down easily. I don't use handbags so keep phone and keys in my pocket and I really struggled to get my phone out to pay sometime s. So try them before you buy. But otherwise very happy with them.

superking · 01/10/2025 09:05

I have one, it's very warm and I wear it a lot. But it's not waterproof and acts like a giant sponge when it rains, plus the pockets are small and don't have a zip so not very secure. Of course there are many styles so there might be one that is waterproof and has proper pockets which would be pretty much perfect!

KarateSchnitzel · 01/10/2025 09:13

I've had superdry coats in the past (not a puffer one) and none have been waterproof. I second tog 24. Love my long puffer coat. Had it four years now and it still looks brand new and its completely waterproof. Bought half price at an outlet store. Would buy this brand again over superdry.

Wendywooooo · 01/10/2025 09:37

A SD long coat is on my purchase list, however I've currently got 2 barbour long sleeveless ones, So not sure how much I'd wear a full coat currently, give it a month or so and it's a bit cooler and we'll see!

£60 for a SD coat sounds a steal

Gettingbysomehow · 02/10/2025 13:07

I'm 63 and my new puffa coat looks just fine.
I dont think it matters about your age if you style it well.

Most people don’t so I wouldn’t fret about it. I’m old enough to remember the original “Puffa” brand.

ThirdStorm · 02/10/2025 13:24

I got my superdry puffer last season and I can't wait for it to me cold enough to wear it again. So comfy and warm and the first properly long coat I've owned, I'm 5' 9' and it is down at my ankles!

BankfieldForever · 02/10/2025 13:28

I know nothing of Superdry but ‘right fixture’ made me smile.

My mum used to say she thought she’d look ‘a pippin’ in anything she deemed slightly outlandish.

WhatAboutThisUser · 02/10/2025 13:28

I have one. It’s not waterproof but it’s so thick the rain doesn’t soak though noticeably. Very warm. A small niggle is you have to bend right down to get to the zip. And it’s a matt fabric that sticks to dirt. Check the pockets are big enough for your phone. Overall I would recommend.

PyongyangKipperbang · 02/10/2025 17:37

Thanks all for the info. Tog24 is out of my price range, but the SD one is very affordable. I am not too concerned about it being waterproof, more about the warmth.

I am going to get it tomorrow so I will let you know, thanks for the tips about the pockets!

I love mine!

Mizztikle · 03/10/2025 15:12

£60 is a really good price, I've only had the puffer jacket but that was really warm, sort of a snow jacket situation. No complaints but I did look like a member of east 17 as it was white.

😂one of my colleagues pointed it out in the staffroom at work, we all had a good laugh, I never wore it to work again tho😳

UpMyself · 03/10/2025 16:56

@PyongyangKipperbang ,you were right, it's a puffer coat. Puffa was (is?) a brand name.

I have no strong feelings about puffer jackets but will be using the phrases “a right fixture” and “a pippin” as often as possible from now on.
