I like them but do not wish to make a dreadful faux pas. NB: I am not a sloane, lol. Any opinions?

so long as it is not padded or velvet, doesn't give you a terrible quiff at the front, make you look like Alice in Wonderland or a sloane you are probably ok.

I wear them all the time - either the narrow elastic type that goes all the way round or the wide fabric ones more like a scarf.

SmugColditz · 03/06/2008 14:31

While applying make up, moisturiser or plucking eyebrows.

MrsBadger · 03/06/2008 14:31

(Claire's or H&M are good for the former, Accessorize for the latter)

DoubleBluff · 03/06/2008 14:32

a woamn in her 30's should be able to wear what ever she likes.

Kindersurprise · 03/06/2008 14:32

I don't like the sparkly ones for anyone over the age of 16. And no velvet ones with pearls on them

MrsBadger · 03/06/2008 14:33

look, cool

southeastastra · 03/06/2008 14:33

yes wear what you like!

i've got a really nice thin plaited leather one from accessorize

nickytwotimes · 03/06/2008 14:33

Okay, conflicting views already. I don't want to make a fanny of myself so am waiting...

(saw some smashing ones in Claire's today [covet])

VERY cool

Anna8888 · 03/06/2008 14:34

None. Awful things.

The girlfriend of one of my partner's cousins who must be nearly 40 wears one all the time, with long straight hair. She is otherwise pretty and very slim and fit and dresses OK - why the appalling hairstyle?

harpsichordcarrier · 03/06/2008 14:34

oh wear what you like
as long as it doesn't have your name written on it

nickytwotimes · 03/06/2008 14:34

Very nice Badger.

harpsichordcarrier · 03/06/2008 14:35

oh I like Mrs B's
the nearer I get to 40, the less I give a stuff about what other people think tbh

jingleyjen · 03/06/2008 14:35

I wear one, didn't for a while, but now don't give a stuff what people think, I like wearing them.

MrsBadger · 03/06/2008 14:35

ok maybe not those prints but concept is sound

RubySlippers · 03/06/2008 14:37

i wear them a lot

Superdrug have some ok hairbands, and can vouch for Clarie's Accesories range as well

Have very curly but fine hair which, once i have an alice band on, and my hair artfully (!) piled up i look half way decent

WilyWombat · 03/06/2008 14:39

See I really like them and think they can sometimes look quite funky but its a very fine line between it working or coming across as a sloan or spinster librarian as a result I have never actually worn one.

Hmm I have a mental picture of Paris Hilton wearing one...not sure thats a good thing.

MrsBadger · 03/06/2008 14:41

oh yes - I avoid wearing mine with a cardigan or a shirt dress (too librariany) or a really long skirt (too hippy)

WilyWombat · 03/06/2008 14:44

Hmm chich boho hippy is a style I could live with but spinster librarian is to be avoided at all costs so twinsets are out

nickytwotimes · 03/06/2008 14:49

i'm going to go for it.
[brave]
I'm blaming you lot, ya know.

They are fine! I wear one on occasion too and am even considering spending a fiver on one I saw in matalan

Hova · 03/06/2008 14:57

I like that alice band hair up look that the beautiful woman in studio 60 wore

bad pic of it here

is nice

DaDaDa · 03/06/2008 14:59

At a gymkhana.

MrsBadger · 03/06/2008 15:03

oh yes, Jordan

but, like Charlotte in early Sex and the City, she wears very preppy things that would make most of us look frighteningly unsexy and/or about 12
