Dinner-dance outfit for non-girly DD14

DD14 has a dinner-dance evening for her sport’s presentation evening coming up. She plays in a team with adults as well as teens and so it’s going to be a fairly dressy affair with the adults making quite a bit of effort to dress up.

She absolutely does not want to wear a dress. Or a skirt. She’d be happy wearing a suit like the boys and men but is worried she’ll - in her words - ‘look like a lesbian’ 🙄 (despite me pointing out that the actual lesbians in her team will be wearing dresses!).

She’d be most comfortable in trousers and a t shirt. Or her sports kit 😂. She doesn’t like sparkles or sleeveless tops. Or most things to be honest.

I found a nice jumpsuit but she wasn’t overly keen. And then there’s the issue of shoes. She lives in trainers and hates anything else.

Any ideas?

Smart shorts and blazer would look good with smart trainers.

Or the smart waistcoat style tops.

DD is the same age and very similar. She has a jersey jumpsuit with flared legs in plain navy that she wears for dressy occassions. She wears in with a variety of Converse boots, including a pair in plain navy leather with black sole, laces eyelets etc, no coloured logos. That’s as formal she goes. I her words “I’m not going to wear something i can’t run in.”.

My DD who is almost 14 wore a navy blue suit - the jacket was £25 from Amazon and she got her school trousers but in navy blue to wear with it. She then wore a knitted polo shirt (from Primark, it was £10) and new Adidas Spezials in a toning colour. She looked fab 😍
