From Vinted. Lovely black silk and I thought it was a standard shirt with tails (like men’s shirts). But it has two buttons on the front, one near the top and one near the bottom. So a big gap down the middle. And then another button near one armpit, with a corresponding buttonhole near the opposite armpit. The tails are only at the front.

I can’t work out how to wear it. Well- i’m a bit afraid that I have worked it out and it doesn’t look good at all! But I can’t find any pictures of anything similar to check or to see how it’s been styled. I’m hoping that the S&B mavens might be able to help me with this.

I drew the two sides together with the button under the armpit, fastening it just about at the bust, and then the tails flow down in front- but one is longer than the other. And it makes the shirt tight under the arms- so am hoping I got it wrong and there is a lovely way to wear it and look great, otherwise it will have to be consigned to the Not Selling pile of my Vinted listings, or else baffle women in my local charity shop for evermore 🤣

I'm guessing you would cross the front sides of the shirt and button under the opposite side, to make a draped front? Does the shirt have a label that you can look up?

Try doing that and post a photo!

TheChosenTwo · 22/09/2025 20:42

Sorry I’m struggling to envisage what’s happening with the armpit buttons! I can’t picture it at all.

mdinbc · 22/09/2025 20:43

Ah, it is from Poetry... can you google the style number?

DoubtfulCat · 22/09/2025 21:16

Ooh, where would I find the style number? On the care label?

I will try to do a photo tomorrow. It’s very odd!

Place marking for the origami photo.

ADHDHDHDHD · 23/09/2025 05:48

Have you got it on back to front?

Have you got it on back to front?

No- it has a classic shirt collar.

I can't visualise this at all. Is it a wrapover?

Mucky1 · 23/09/2025 10:07

It will be sort of a wrap style so that under the bust wavy tail crosses over and attaches to the button under the arm

elQuintoConyo · 23/09/2025 11:19

I have no style and even less beauty, but I'm on the edge of my seat for pictures!

DoubtfulCat · 23/09/2025 13:24

I will endeavour to provide visual clues later today!

So it’s product number V950 and one of the top results is a Mumsnet thread from 2015 😆 but the link to it in that thread doesn’t take you to anything (unsurprisingly).

This is it flat:

And these show the button and buttonhole beneath the arms, towards the side seams:

I think you button the cuff into the side seam, then walk like a penguin, with your arms pinned to your sides. 🐧

Laiste · 23/09/2025 18:58

Is there a button or hole on the tips of the tails?

Do you attach each tail to the opposite arm pit?
(?)

NotMeNoNo · 23/09/2025 19:30

Don't you cross it over like a dressing gown, so middle button goes to the side buttonhole underneath and the middle buttonhole to the side button?

NotMeNoNo · 23/09/2025 19:32

Aha, picture
