What colour tights with black dress

I’ve got an evening event - will be wearing a just above the knee black dress and black kitten heels. But what colour tights? Natural leg colour, or barely black sheer, or glossy type, or what … really unsure what’s OK these days. Thank you !

How long is your dress? If it's knee length or longer I don't see why you need tights at all. It's still warm enough to go without.

I'm off to a black tie event this evening and wearing a black and red dress. It's knee length and I'm wearing black opaques and black heels. If my legs were better I wouldn't wear tights at all, but I'm very self conscious about my spider veins 😔.

"Will be wearing a just above the knee length..."

It's the first line!

Jeez … 🙄

And I don’t think bare legs is suitable for a formal event.

I feel like tights are a more polished look. But are barely black in fashion? Or natural leg colour?

Or;

Depending on the degree of formality.

I would go for some glossy tights.

Glitterbiscuits · 18/09/2025 13:25

Go for the darkest brown you can find.
its really effective with black dress and black shoes

What fabric is the dress? I wouldn't wear glossy tights with a dress in a fabric that might look 'shiny' under lights - I think it won't work together. Depending on the event, and if the dress is quite plain, a subtly patterned tight could look nice? E.g. https://www.oliverbonas.com/accessories/heart-spot-black-tights-362917?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Google%20Shopping%20UK&utm_term=41-500-945-2&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=22730265489&gbraid=0AAAAADrENCjZRl2TAWp6CHX4tRgKMb5aq&gclid=Cj0KCQjw267GBhCSARIsAOjVJ4Gu-Oe31jx5vGkhJ1ME2aPkfRgXRxHI3q4QcdSYWxNX4F1HAVZwxVMaAqBcEALw_wcB#selection.color=14

The dress is crushed velvet. So maybe I need something understated to go along side.

I would just do a low denier none glossy black tight with velvet. You want the dress to be the eye catcher. And glossy would look tacky with velvet x
