Outfit for a home birthday drinks party !

Going to a friends 60th birthday at her house next weekend and I’m used to living in high waist wide leg jeans and casual tops usually with trainers ! All my wardrobe is casual !
my other options were summer dresses but weather looks crap.
would love ideas for a smart casual party look, I’m 5ft 8 uk size 10, small bust ! I’d like to think a trendy 56 year old.
was thinking nice trousers or maybe even a jumpsuit
my other non trainer shoes are limited to chunky Chelsea boots but do have some black suede heeled ankle boots too.
open to any ideas 🙏

What about the usual wide legged jeans, the chunky Chelsea boots, a smarter top and jewellery that's a bit more than you usually wear?

any ideas on nicer tops and happy to buy some different shoes - fancy heels but struggle to walk in stiletto style heels !

@Itsbeenalongoldday I would not, personally, wear chunky boots in Sept. Black suede possibly. Jump suit no. All that faff in the loo!

I like heavy linen trousers so they hang properly. Pair with a silk shirt or similar. Or a light linen knit. They look great with gold jewellery - long necklace. Personally I’d go with non chunky loafers or Mary Jane’s if you buy a decent pair.

If the party is inside somebody's house then are you sure you need shoes?

@SocksAndTheCity Who doesn’t wear shoes at a party inside? Maybe some non drinking religions but most people who throw a party don’t ask guests to take their shoes off.

i would like to find an outfit that makes me feel special but nog like I’ve tried too hard - like a beautiful pair of wide leg trousers, a comfortable heel and beautiful top that would show my ok waist, cover my slightly wider top of thighs and will make me feel special.

What is your budget Op? I find difficult to recommend something without knowing what sort of things or colours you like.
I am similar size to you, how about massimo dutti? They do floaty silk shirts or other tops that look classy with a pair of trousers, they have several in stock

Or other stories? Might not be your thing at all but some ideas

I tried these on in the summer and loved them but I don’t think I’d get much wear though for the outlay ! / considering similar Shape but plain, have some black suede pointy ankle bootle with kitten heel I could wear ?

Also bought these the other day - could I dress them up any styling ideas they’re a good fit - I struggle to find good belts !

check the trousers in massimo dutti then, they are a lower price point than m&em (not as good quality but good for that sort of thing)

I was thinking this. I'd naturally pop my shoes off as I go into someone's home.

Tux jacket, silky camisole or white t shirt depending on how dressy you want to be, jeans, heeled boots. If doing tshirt then add some statement earrings.

I’ve got these three tops and think they would work for a house party with jeans or wide leg trousers…

@Itsbeenalongoldday I’m not a fan of the waistcoat look. It’s going to scream 2025 and women’s football. Longer line sleeveless jackets aren’t so bad.

A tux evening jacket might be ott so maybe with jeans? Is the place heated? Too hot? I’d go with a silk satin blouse and plain trousers. Deep burgundy is a very key colour for autumn. I’ve also seen some nice cashmere t shirts. These look great with jeans (dark wash) or well cut trousers. Add a long necklace. If getting patterned trousers, then a plain top is best but colours get limited. Try buying 2 pieces together.

Massimo Dutti are Zara. You could look at H&M family Arket and &OtherStories. Mango have upped their game too. They’ve recently done first class trousers in a crepe fabric that are brilliantly cut.

Black suede boots sound fine. No one has ever taken their shoes off at my drinks parties. We have ceramic floors mostly and some wood and rugs. Shoes matter but I don’t like stilettos digging into the wood!
