Jacket/warm top to go with maxi skirts and dresses

I have a few maxi skirts, maxi dresses and knee length/ midi dresses which i love to wear in the summer, but would love to wear them into the autumn but paired with something on top to keep me warm.

I'd prefer the classier/ looks like I've made an effort look rather than sticking a puffa jacket over the top of everything. Especially as my husband is the type of guy to make an effort

I'm late 30s, but could pass as early 30s (i hope) and am a size 6-8. I just can't find anything that I think would go with a skirt in the shop

The old classic would be a denim jacket. Or maybe a biker if the colours are dark.
Otherwise a cropped cardigan.
I think a lot depends on the colours. Easier to wear darker colours in autumn winter with layers and boots but pastels and florals not so much. Do you have an example of a dress? Eg I have a dark green one I wear with a sage green chunky moss stitch cardigan and trainers.

A cropped jacket of some sort works best for this i think. Or else very long

Needs to be short as the dresses are long. I’d go for an All Saints leather biker jacket or something similar.

Thanks for the suggestions. I used to wear a cropped denim jacket, but i left it hung up in the porch by a window and one arm and s strip down the back became sun bleached, so I had to get rid of it and haven't yet found a replacement.

I'll do a search of cropped jackets and see what I can find. Thanks again all!

I have a few cropped jumpers in different colours to go over my maxi dresses. And I throw over my leather biker jacket or my demin jacket when I'm going out

Mine is a few years old, but I love my faux sheepskin flying jacket for this sort of thing. It’s warm enough that I can extend my wearing of lightweight, more summery clothes, and its shape and texture adds interest to outfits.

This sort of thing (although mine is oversized which I prefer): https://www.marksandspencer.com/faux-shearling-aviator-jacket/p/clp22602572?intid=mobile_app_pdp_share
