Does anyone wax their own legs?

I mean, someone must, cos they sell wax in supermarkets.

If you do, what do you use and how easy is it? I seem to recall trying to when I was about 15 and it being a pain in the arse.

Actually, if it was a pain in the arse, I probably wasn't doing it right...

Oh, ykwim!

I had it done in a salon and cried with the pain (I know, I am wuss).

I then decided to give it another go at home with the was strips. I tried pulling it off myself and got someone else to do it and both methods were equally horrid.

Some people swear that you get used to it but I think sticking pins in my eyes is less painful so its back to the daily razor in the shower for me.

My sister does, it's fascinating to watch, she uses the immac cold wax strips. presses down, grits her teeth and pulls and yells!!

I use an epilator. Must agree with your last post, it should not be a pain in your derrier if you are applying the wax correctly....

hunkermunker · 02/06/2008 10:36

Hmm, just remembered Dinny telling me how much it hurt to have them waxed in salon...

Ah, heck, might give it a go anyway.

I tried waxing my legs when I was maybe 15/16 I remember foolishly putting two strips on at once the pain of the first one was so excruciating then I had to remove the second one, never again!

though I do have two fairly bald patches on my leg to this day, but I can still remember the pain.

prettybird · 02/06/2008 11:02

I sue the Veet cold wax strips. I don't find it too bad - as long as you do it quickly. Works better too if you pull back the strips really quickly.

hunkermunker · 02/06/2008 17:51

I'm going to do it.

I can't believe that anyone has the disposable income to pay someone to do it for them!

It is a pain, not because it hurts, but because however hard you try, you always miss a load of 'em .. and the ones you've missed are only ever visible in bright sunlight .. when you're out ... all dressed up!

lazarou · 02/06/2008 17:55

Yes, I have a wax pot and buy my wax from sally's. YOu have to get some spatulas as well. Some waxes are microwaveable now so no need to buy a wax pot.
Those ready made strips don't work very well ime. TBH, I would just go to a salon and get it done. Much quicker and they will be able to get to the parts you miss.

hunkermunker · 02/06/2008 17:55

Maybe I'll get DH to do it for me.

Hmm.

Maybe not!

OP posts:
Desiderata · 02/06/2008 17:58

hmm, but hunker's dh would be a whole lot cheaper

lazarou · 02/06/2008 18:02

As long as he does it properly hunker. He has to pull it backwards close to the skin quickly. If he pulls it up and off he will bruise you.

hunkermunker · 02/06/2008 18:05

I don't bruise, pretty much ever. I think I'm a zombie, actually.

But yes, think I'll do it myself - might get divorced if he gets the wrong end of the stick...!

ankles are the most painful bit. I did wax my own underarms once but that was very difficult.

Pomi · 02/06/2008 18:14

I do every time.

funnypeculiar · 02/06/2008 18:21

I do - I find it MUCH less painful than salon waxing (I think I like to control my own pain ), but I agree that it is less efficient than salon waxing - & I make the most cack-awful mess with hot wax - I always manage to drop some somewhere....

I even wax my own bikini line

alibubbles · 02/06/2008 18:45

I did my legs, underarms and bikini yesterday afternoon, took me 25 minutes with the Babyliss roll on, dead easy!

i do go to the salon every so often, because I like a brazilian but it is great for doing arms which take 2 minutes and a general tidy up.

Yes Cod, why strange? It cost me £3 as opposed to £55 -£30 for brazilian, £15 for legs, £10 for pits

I hate the cold strips , I only use hot wax and you can buy the brazilaian wax that you use like playdough, which is how the french wax you. It doesn't hurt as it doesn't stick to the skin, only the hair.

girlnextdoor · 02/06/2008 20:10

it doesn't hurt? But it is when the hair is ripped ou that it hurts!

alibubbles · 02/06/2008 20:14

I have been having everything waxed for around 34 years, so I am used to it. and now my hair grows back very sparsely, so that's why it is easier to do it myself occasionally.

I have never shaved or used cream as i can't stand the smell of it!
