Teenage acne - what works please?

Dd, 13, has lots of spots around forehead and top of nose. They hurt as she wears glasses too. She's tried tea tree oil, those little stickers and uses Cerave blemish control cleanser and their moisturising lotion.

Today the pharmacist said to use Sudocrem on the spots- but DD had tried that.

Any ideas or tips please?

Going to see the GP.

Get gel cream from the GP. My ds used Duac cream from the GP and it cleared it really well.

TheGrimSmile · 07/09/2025 19:23

You can only get it on prescription

TheGrimSmile · 07/09/2025 19:23

You might be able to get it from an online pharmacy but then she'd have to pay.

My dd was similar and then we bought a product called salcura (cleanser and blemish spray) and it has cleared up by 90 %.

You could try acnecide 5% gel or wash, most pharmacies sell it over the counter

Daily sikn care routine with Sukin anti blemish products, (on Amazon) , changing pillow case couple times a week, drinking loads of water and washing hair more often helped my teen. They were using all sorts of different products before and some if it was quite harsh and irritated their skin/made it worse. It really made a difference sticking with one thing and Sukin is great for sensitive skin.

GP we tried most things for a while but antibiotics and the higher strength retinol cream have cleared it up beautifully. As recommended on here. The cream is now on repeat prescription.

Btw you can't get online prescriptions from the pharmacist for kids under 16 for this stuff. We tried.

Try acnecide or go to the GP

The Skin 47 routine worked. It’s expensive though

Acnecide gel from the chemist. It’s honestly done wonders for my dd, I wish I had before and after shots.
