Janelle coat discounted the day after I ordered

I have lost five stone this year and am replacing all of my clothes (even my shoes are too big now!) which is pretty expensive. I have sold lots of my bigger stuff on Vinted and buying as much as possible from there too, but some things I like to get new.

I've always found the Seasalt Janelle coat to be very reliable, cosy, practical and it looks great so that was one item I decided to buy new. I ordered it at full price - £180 - and it's arrived, is lovely and all I've done is try it on and hang it in my wardrobe. I haven't taken off the tags. Today it's £40 off online so would only cost me £140 to buy it a day later.

I'll return and reorder it, but it seems like a hassle - do you think if I contact Customer Services they'd refund the £40 to save the time of processing a return? I know they have no obligation, just wondering if other people have or would ask - or would you just send it back and buy it again at the lower price?

I did this once but can’t remember which brand it was. They did see sense and gave me the discount as a refund. You can only try and see what they say. Good luck.

I had similar Op with Seasalt and had to return and reorder. Even though the customer service person that I spoke agreed that was just more work for Seasalt and me!

Oh well, it's not so bad I guess, just a faff!

I've emailed customer services to ask, and if no luck I'll be near a Seasalt store on Monday so I'll just go in, return it and buy it again, and hope the staff don't think I'm a PITA!

I’ve done the same with clothes I’ve bought in the past from Boden and they have honoured the price difference and refunded.

Boden customer services are really good in my experience!

I’ve done this with All Saints. I just rang customer services, and they refunded the difference. Absolutely no hassle at all. So hopefully you’ll have the same experience.

Kaftanqween · 06/09/2025 11:00

I have done this with Mytheresa. They refunded the difference after we had a discussion about the carbon footprint of me returning the item and buying it again. It took a while and required taking to the right person but got there in the end. If you’re near a store it’ll be easier.

SeasaltDilemma · 06/09/2025 11:06

Seasalt have said no! So a return and reorder it is.

boo Seasalt! I’ve done this with Warehouse who agreed it was a waste of time and postage.

PluirinSneachta · 06/09/2025 11:10

That’s disappointing.

Sorry to state the obvious, but make sure you order it immediately in case it goes out of stock.

And good point from pp on carbon footprint - but I'm going into town anyway and will ask to return and rebuy the exact same coat so it's only a minor waste of time.

It’s so ridiculous. I’d send an email outlining your call and ask the head of customer services to reconsider, based on the impact on the environment. You are in effect required to return something and have the same item resent to you. Bonkers. See if they have an environmental policy and quote from that. Often it’s getting to the right person. Call handlers don’t always have permissions to give discounts or refunds.

Trying this as a last attempt - their goal is to reach net zero by 2040!

Company policy says no - but my feedback will be passed on. Off to town I go, making a note of retailers mentioned on the thread who are more flexible on this!

I’ve done this a few times and they’ve always refunded no questions asked
