Evening out ...what to wear?

Titasaducksarse · 03/09/2025 23:06

48 years old I've recently lost weight. Size 14 now, hourglass figure. Larger bust.

I have a meal out with friends next week and I'm a bit lost as to what to wear. I can't even reference clothing companies I like ...well I like All Saints style but I've never worn anything by them except a scarf!

My go to would likely be jeans and a top. I don't favour patterns. I don't mind jeans and top or a dress. I used to like wrap dress style. In my wardrobe I've lots of shoes and boots so that shouldn't be an issue.

So...help! Any suggestions of brands would be great.

So surely now’s the time to try out All Saints?

If not - what is your budget limit?

Lol...the simplest idea is often the best.

Budget...£150

Ok - forget everything you used to wear. You’re a new person now.

How about this:

Topshop top (Maybe size up?)

and this:

Topshop skirt

Autumnal colours and at least one thing that should last.

Plus your best boots.

Well, if you (think you) like All Saints, these are what I think are the best dress options. Do you have black knee-high boots, either chunky/biker style, or 70s stacked heel style?

I have this top and it looks great with jeans, satin skirts and wide leg trousers. It’s got an AllSaints vibe…

They do seem to do the same styles/cuts year after year though. So if you had time you could go try some on - & then buy similar from the bargains that you can find on Vinted/eBay! This is lovely, if you like animal print ...?

One of their classic slip dresses - though depends on your bust size?

What these posts are all saying, @Titasaducksarse, is that £150 won’t buy you a full autumnal outfit from All Saints that celebrates your new figure. (Which is why I picked pieces from Topshop instead. It’s all so new you’ll gain credit for early adoption. 😄)

ForMauveUser · 04/09/2025 07:13

Opt for structured, belted, or wrap styles that cinch at your natural waist to celebrate your shape

SpecialMilkMonitor · 04/09/2025 07:53

Does anyone who aims to look alert and contemporary still want to be wearing a ‘wrap’ anything?

Lampzade · 04/09/2025 08:03

I dislike ‘wrap’ styles. They are the go to suggestion for anyone who is size 16 or over and who has larger boobs and smaller waist .
Square/ sweetheart necklines are more flattering and more ‘ modern’.
Wrap styles ( particularly dresses) are frumpy

Titasaducksarse · 04/09/2025 08:16

Thank you for all the constructive comments. I think I shall be popping into my local All Saints store for a good look. I think it's the confidence of trying new things out that I need to embrace.
I used to laugh and not understand when women would say they didn't know how to dress anymore...but I absolutely understand now!

Again thank you.

Im a fan of silk/satin trousers. Seem very easy to style up or down.
In fact, I'm a fan of this woman's style, despite being a different shape, age and height. She's got some nice, classic going out styles.

Well, my shopping trip resulted in a lovely top from All Saints.
https://www.allsaints.com/women/tops-and-shirts/leslie-short-sleeve-top/W024PD-5.html

I then also bought black wide legged jeans from Sosander with both the idea of wearing with the top but also I just needed some.

I also bought a long faux leather skirt from Sosander too. Just seeing if it works for me. .thinking of styling casually with chunky knit boxy jumper and chunky flat boots.

It was fab being smaller and not worrying if I'll fit into anything

Im a bit worried about my bank balance when I get to goal weight lol. Think vinted will be a firm friend!

Gorgeous top @Titasaducksarse love it in the white too, it might be in my basket🙈 I can’t justify the black as it’s a tiny little bit like the Next one I’ve already got, you did very well!

Seaside3 · 05/09/2025 20:58

Would love to see the jeans and skirt too!

My partner likes it too and was impressed with my choice.
